Trees Atlanta is a nationally recognized non-profit citizens' group that protects and improves Atlantas urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating. Founded in 1985, Trees Atlanta works tirelessly to address Atlantas tree loss, protect its forests, and create new greenspace. Empowered by its wonderful community of volunteers, Trees Atlanta serves the metro Atlanta area, and has grown to become one of Atlantas most widely known and supported non-profit organizations.
What you get to do:
Trees Atlanta is looking for a Workforce Development Supervisor/Manager to be a strategic member of the organization who will serve as a liaison to the surrounding community as well as oversee workforce development recruitment and programming for open employment positions at Trees Atlanta and the Youth Tree Team. The Youth Tree Team is a paid summer work program for Metro Atlanta teens to have exposure to Green Collar jobs, financial literacy, and professionalism during the summer. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, enthusiastic, and creative problem-solver who has a strong desire to both mentor high school students (aged 14-19) and create a strong connection between Trees Atlantas mission and community members.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Recruit and train youth and adults in the areas of urban forestry and urban ecology maintenance
- Advocate and model environmental stewardship within the Metro Atlanta community
- Coordinate opportunities to expose youth to environmentally focused career opportunities while helping them develop a strong work ethic through paid experience at Trees Atlanta
- Create the opportunity for upward economic mobility for the community
- Create and nurture relationships between community based organizations and neighborhood planning units and Trees Atlanta
- Collect and analyze data to tell the impact story of Trees Atlantas workforce programming that will influence current and future program funding
What you need:
- Have a with a passion for environmental stewardship, economic advancement, and a commitment to working to achieve greater equity and respect for all
- Have at least 3 years of professional work experience in education, youth programming, outdoor education, volunteer services, outreach/advocacy, or community-based programming especially with marginalized communities
- A degree is not required but will substitute for 1 year of professional experience if related to Forestry, Horticulture, or Environmental Studies/Design, Education, Community Advocacy, or Volunteer Services (basic knowledge of flora/fauna is highly desired)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google Drive applications
- Have strong oral and written communication skills with a high level of cultural competency and emotional intelligence
- Experience with Salesforce and ArcGIS helpful
Physical Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age (Insurance requirement to drive Trees Atlanta vehicles)
- Have a valid drivers license with at least a 3-year clear history
- Be comfortable working in both outdoor and indoor conditions;
- Outdoors: bending, lifting (approximately 30-50 pounds), and shoveling in various weather conditions
- Office Setting: sitting and utilizing a computer for long periods of time
- Be comfortable driving a 12-15 passenger van and or a truck with a trailer
- Have an updated tetanus shot
- There will be occasional evening and weekend commitments that will be compensated with additional paid time o
- All final candidates will be required to pass both a criminal background check and drug screening; adverse results could impact hiring (Trees Atlanta is a participant in the Federal Drug-Free Workplace program ).
- Final candidates applying for positions that require driving company owned vehicles will also have to pass a Motor Vehicle Report review to determine eligibility. Eligible drivers must also pass a DOT physical.
- All new hires will be required to verify their identity and eligibility to work in the United States of America. Trees Atlanta in compliance with regulation set by the Department of Homeland Security. Trees Atlanta is a registered E-Verify employer.
