Pacific Biosciences of California, Inc. Reporting to Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President, Finance will primarily be focused on building and managing the FP&A team to maintain full responsibility for Pacific Biosciences strategic planning, short term financial planning, optimization of resource allocation, budgeting, and forecasting and financial analysis activities. We are looking for a senior-level, hands-on leader with a strategic mindset who demonstrates the capabilities of developing and driving the long-term strategic planning processes, annual and quarterly budgets, financial forecasts and analyses, driving corporate development analysis and integration, overseeing the development and delivery of management reporting environments, monitoring key performance indicators and driving companywide financial performance initiatives. 


 


The executive will oversee the business planning process for the companys growth strategies, including the development of evaluation metrics, process development, and ROI analysis. They will be tasked with implementing systems, procedures, and controls that force financial discipline, producing timely, reliable and accurate information enabling effective decision-making. A key aspect of the position will be to partner closely with the Companys executives and senior management to drive timely business insight and companywide financial results, provide strategic analytical insight surrounding operational and financial performance, and to provide fact-based thought leadership on key corporate and financial decisions.


 




Key Responsibilities



  • Working closely with the CFO and departmental leadership to develop long-term strategic plans, annual budgets and operational analysis and reporting; providing thought leadership around understanding business drivers and their impact

  • Establishing and reporting on key operational, financial and sales metrics, including KPIs, dashboards, business trends and performance vs plan and driving processes to improve consistent productivity and efficiency improvements

  • Driving quarterly financial rhythms to analyze actual financial results and forecasting future periods

  • Driving gross margin improvement initiatives as well as lead a team of cost accountants

  • Providing analytical perspectives and executive financial summaries to important strategic decisions, including M&A activities and new business opportunities

  • Operating amongst cross-functional teams to analyze and present key financial and strategic issues to senior leadership

  • Working with executive management to maintain a five-year long range plan that incorporates the financial impacts of the Companys strategies and initiatives

  • Overseeing ongoing development of business intelligence and budgeting tools

  • Overseeing treasury management activities

  • Providing support to our month-end and quarter-end closing and external reporting processes, including executive level monthly and quarterly performance packages to be utilized by our executive management team and Board of Directors

  • Driving daily and weekly internal processes to maintain and improve quarterly financial outlook

  • Partnering with the CFO on investor relations as necessary

  • Performing ad hoc financial analysis to support key business decisions

  • Supervising, developing, mentoring, establishing and reviewing quarterly and annual goals for the broader FP&A organization team in collaboration with the CFO and department leadership of the Company



 


Candidate Profile



  • Demonstrated track record of success as a senior finance leader, including substantial experience in financial planning and analysis, divisional finance/controller and manufacturing finance roles in a publicly-held finance organization

  • Manufacturing industry experience is required; life sciences or semiconductor industry experience preferred

  • Significant experience in mergers and acquisitions from due diligence through execution and integration

  • Experience managing key supplier and/or outsource relationships as well as development partnerships, ideally in a fashion which provides for future capacity availability and important technology migrations

  • Demonstrated ability to understand profitability drivers and to deliver financial results. A proven track record of process improvement and experience with financial systems and process change initiatives

  • Strong communication and relationship building skills at senior levels, with the ability to interpret and summarize data to aid management in achieving strategic and operational goals. The ideal candidate will be a natural leader with excellent verbal/communications skills and a thoughtful, persuasive personal style

  • A highly metrics-driven individual with strong analytical abilities

  • Systems savvy and comfortable with data driven environments

  • Ability to challenge the norms and existing processes and relentlessly looks for ways to add value and to position the organization for success

  • Ability to effectively manage projects; results oriented and able to roll-up the sleeves in order to accomplish necessary tasks

  • A self-starter comfortable to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

  • MBA preferred

  • Excellent Excel, PowerPoint and modeling skills
