Job Summary
Transformative Learning (TL) is hiring a UK 101 Peer Leader within the Academic Preparation and Achievement program. The Peer Leader will be an integral part of students’ first experiences with the University of Kentucky and TL by directly supporting UK 101/201 Peer Instructors. UK 101 Peer Leaders are responsible for mentoring and supporting Peer Instructors as well as supporting daily operations of UK 101 including, but not limited to, Peer Instructor training, hiring, and marketing for UK 101/2301. 

This leadership position is demanding and rewarding. It requires a significant investment of time and intellectual and emotional energy; however, it also offers valuable leadership experience; opportunities to contribute to a valuable program; and experience with varied tasks including program assessment, staff training, and hiring. 

Job responsibilities include: 
  • Serve as mentor and first point of contact for Peer Instructors
  • Provide effective leadership for all undergraduate staff members
  • Hold weekly office hours for Peer Instructors
  • Create social media content for UK 101
  • Work closely with the UK 101 Teaching Assistant and Program Coordinator to: 
  • Assist in hiring and training Peer Instructors each spring/summer
  • Ensure Peer Instructors are fulfilling their job responsibilities
  • Communicate questions and concerns to UK 101 staff
  • Observe Peer Instructors in the classroom and provide feedback
  • Communicate campus news and happenings across all Peer Instructors
  • Perform various administrative tasks (updating canvas, maintaining accurate personal records, serving at tabling events, etc.)
  • Attend regular meetings with TA and Program Coordinator
  • Schedule one-on-one meetings with new Peer Instructors
  • Serve as a public face of Transformative Learning when tabling and marketing UK 101
  • Utilize the Wildcat Network to facilitate mentoring relationships with Peer Instructors
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
A successful candidate would be a highly effective communicator, knowledgeable about student success strategies, comfortable leading and facilitating training for a large audience, comfortable supervising peers, including conducting corrective action meetings as needed; be enthusiastic about assisting students in UK 101 and TL’s missions and goals; effectively work as a part of a team; manage multiple responsibilities, priorities, and deadlines; enjoy working with scheduling platforms and necessary technology; enjoy working in a leadership role among peers; have outstanding oral and written communication skills; have attention to detail and the ability to think and plan ahead; understand and abide by privacy/confidentiality laws and policies; be capable of working autonomously; be willing to make this position a top priority behind academics; be comfortable collaborating with Professional Staff.
