POSITION SUMMARY
-
The Cancer Registrar position assures that complete and accurate data are collected and maintained for all cancer patients diagnosed and/or treated within an institution or other defined population. The registrar must work with other departments in the hospital to ensure complete coverage. This position must be able to communicate with other departments regarding cancer statistics and outcomes as retrieved from the registry data and be able to elicit information as needed by others. Coordinating educational conferences and working with multi-disciplinary committees is also part of this position as well as initiating awareness of cancer information at the hospital and community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Licenses and Certifications Required
-
Hold a certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential or CTR eligible strongly preferred.

BLS certification preferred, but not required.
-
Attain CTR certification within 3 years of hire.

Educational Requirements
-
RHIA/RHIT or clinical degree preferred.

Experience Requirements
-
2-3 years of health information management experience preferred.

Coding experience preferred.

Oncology experience preferred.

Special Skills or Training Requirements
-
Able to utilize a computer for inputting data.

EHR experience required.
-
Organization skills.

Medical terminology strongly preferred.

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology strongly preferred.
