This position is primarily responsible for building and repairing all types, sizes and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools, molds and dies. Assemble and test complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment along with repairing gauges and other measuring devices. Adherence to safety, housekeeping and quality standards as related to production and company objectives is required. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining production goals through productivity targets and cost containment by eliminating waste.

Current business conditions dictate that the successful bidder for this position must have proven CAD/CAM programming experience using a major software package, such as, MasterCam, DelCam (Part Maker), BobCad etc.

The successful bidder must be able to manipulate CAD models, process them into CAM and produce CNC programs. This also includes transferring programs, setting up the CNC equipment and producing prototype parts to defined engineering specifications.


  • Program, set-up, and operate conventional and CNC machines to manufacture prototype molds, tooling, fixtures, and parts that require close tolerances.
  • Assemble and fabricate fixtures, assemblies, and prototype product using hand and power tools.
  • Work closely with R&D Engineers to provide input in developing new product designs into working prototypes.
  • Provide input into product modification with respect to component fabrication.
  • Responsible for cost containment and waste elimination.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Proven proficiency in 4 of the following specialized areas: CNC programming, mold maintenance, welding, wired EDM, Sink EDM, Precision Grinding, Fixtures/Design, Metrology
  • CAD/CAM programming
  • Proven ability to read and understand drawings, work instructions and test procedures, and GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerancing
  • Proven ability to understand standard units of measure and metric system
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds without assistance, and up to 100lbs infrequently with assistance
  • Proven ability to use a variety of measuring instruments (i.e. coordinate measuring machines, verniers, calipers, optical comparator, micrometers, etc.)
  • Ability to be proficient in the operation of manual equipment such as engine lathes, milling machines, grinders as well as hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to program and operate CNC equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, or EDM
  • Proven ability to weld, solder and braze all types of metal
  • Proven ability to understand U.S. and Metric standards for screw threads, tapers and gears
  • Ability to layout and plan the construction of complicated tool from drawings or sketches
  • Working knowledge of materials, especially tool steels and heat treating process
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various levels of the organization including training of new associates and temporaries
  • Ability to operate cranes/slings, pallet jacks and fork trucks
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform lockout/tag-out
  • May be required to travel (may include international travel)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Operate at a level that meets or exceeds quality and productivity standards for the work area
  • Ability to wear safety glasses ANSI Z87 approved, steel toe shoes and other PPE as required

Education and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years toolmaking/prototyping/machining experience
  • Proven skills in mold/die repair and maintenance
  • Proven CNC programming skills using CAD/CAM

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • 2 year degree or certification from technical school in related field
  • Certified Journeyman Machinist
  • Welding experience
  • Ability to use laser scanner for reverse engineering to create prototype parts and molds
  • Injection/compression mold repair and maintenance skills including hot runner systems

Safety Equipment Required:

  • Safety glasses ANSI Z87 approved
  • Required PPE per JSA's
