Job Summary

A temporary Laboratory Technician position is available in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology. The position will be responsible for analysis of drinking and surface water samples for a variety of constituents using techniques such as gas chromatography, ion chromatography, and flow injection analysis. The applicant should have at least a BS degree in chemistry, biology, physics, environmental science, or a related field. Working experience with gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, or related analytical techniques is preferred. The applicant should also have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and laboratory skills with demonstrated experience with chemical analysis. The applicant will be expected to coordinate with community partners and citizen scientists and to assist in collection of samples. Some field work and/or travel to southeastern Kentucky may be required, so the applicant should have a valid driver’s license. The applicant may be expected to lift heavy objects, up to 50 pounds, and be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
