Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Susan and Kenneth Kermes Technology Fellow position. The Kermes Technology Fellow is a full time, one-year term position, job group and level PT-1. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Susan and Kenneth Kermes Technology Fellow is a one-year position available to a graduating senior or recent Amherst graduate. The position begins on July 1 and ends on June 30 of the following year. The fellow will be a staff member of IT Support Services and will support the use of computing devices by students, faculty, and staff. The skills and talents of the successful candidate and the needs of the department will determine the content of the fellowship.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide remote and on-site technical support for assigned systems and a diverse group of clients
Assist with the management and deployment of distributed computing devices
Assist with evaluation and deployment of hardware and software
Assist with the implementation of security policies
Assist with planning, training, and improvement of the student workforce for IT
Assist with remediation of security breaches as it relates to malware
Assist with the development of technical documentation for internal and end-user consumption

Environmental and Physical Demands:
  • Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and monitor; repetitive motions including hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Movement including walking across campus, ascending/descending stairs.
  • Frequently lift, carry, pull and push up to 35 pounds.
  • Bending, reaching, etc. to access hardware and/or network ports located in difficult-to-reach locations.
Qualifications
Required:
An Amherst College graduate before the employment start date.
Excellent customer service skills.
Strong, positive interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community.
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with constant collaboration among a diverse group of team members.
A proven ability to make technical issues understandable and an ability to match technical opportunities to the goals of the College.
Experience using computers and technology in a distributed environment.
Strong time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work normal hours of operation and additional hours as business necessitates.
Attention to detail and personal emphasis on quality and accuracy.
Preferred:
Technology Certifications
Experience in a customer service or service-oriented environment
