Instructional Support Technician I

Art

 

Salary Range: $3, 419 - $6,187/Monthly

 

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; non-exempt classification; temporary, expires on or before one year from start date; may be extended; may become permanent.

 

Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of the Department Chair, the incumbent provides technical support for faculty and students in the Art Department. The incumbent provides direct support for faculty and students in resolving complex problems concerning usage of machinery, electrical equipment, and hand tools; and provides instructional support through set-ups of equipment, displays, demonstrations and other learning activities. Duties include but are not limited to: inventory control, storekeeping; materials, equipment purchasing and distribution; and operation, calibration, survey, maintenance and repair of technical and electrical equipment.

Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services for a unit or discipline in the Arts OR equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equivalent in Art or related discipline which may be substituted for one year of required experience OR equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of material, supplies, or equipment in Art or related discipline. The incumbent must have knowledge of: industry standards for safety procedures on all power equipment and power tools; traditional, experimental and new technology for various instructional techniques; principles providing support services; common principles, methods and techniques; and materials, supplies, equipment and their uses. The incumbent must have the ability to move supplies into and out of storage as part of the preparation of materials for instructional use; supervise student assistants; write memos; calculate quantities of supplies needed or consumed; learn to adjust and make minor repairs on equipment; effectively handle competing demands and interruptions; learn procedures for basic maintenance, repair and operation of mechanical and electronic tools and equipment; oversee and instruct safe operation of equipment, including the wood shop for students and faculty; supervise and instruct safe use of chemicals such as paint products and cleaning agents. The incumbent will be required to work with mechanical and electrical tools and machinery including: wood shop; ceramic kilns; sculpture area; and materials such as plaster, paint products, cleaning, agents, glazes, and etc. Demonstrate interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

 

Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Art or related discipline. Experience in an academic setting.
