QUALIFICATIONS A team member typically brings to the group a combination of experience and aptitude in at least two of the following areas: - Desktop hardware/software support (WIN / Mac) - Server administration (WIN / MAC / *NIX) - Database development – experience with any of the following: mySQL, postgreSQL, MS SQL SVR, MS Access, FileMaker Pro - Basic application programming – experience with some of the following: C++, Javascript, PHP, Visual Studio/.NET Framework, iOS. - Web site management – experience with CSS, and content management systems like Drupal or Joomla - Audio/video production – experience with digital media editing software (Final Cut, Adobe Premier, ProTools, Digital Performer, Audacity) - Graphic design – experience with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent design tools. - Classroom technology support: experience with smart classroom workstation and a/v support Further, so that we can have a well-rounded staff, each individual is encouraged to pursue an interest in at least one other skill area. |

Shift | Minimum of 15 hours/week to a max of 25, depending on individual needs, abilities, and the size of the team. Schedule flexibility is offered during exam times in exchange for availability when the department has its own special needs. Please be aware that this is not a work-study position. |
Job Summary | The Department of Communication’s Office of Research & Instructional Technology (COM-RIT), located in Blazer Dining Hall, is seeking qualified undergraduate students for immediate hire. Historically, COM-RIT team alumni have gained the practical experience needed to help secure positions in companies such as Pardot, LinkedIn, Yahoo, Morris Digitalworks, NetGain Technologies, The Jockey Club, Lexmark, KnowledgeCoop, and Republic Bank, and launch regional tech companies such as Apax Software, Awesome Inc., and Gun Media. NOTE: Skills and experience are very important, but interest, eagerness to learn, quality of character, and sense of humor are equally valued. Simply put, we work hard and laugh a lot. Big egos need not apply. WHAT WE DO COM-RIT provides technical support and development for Department of Communication faculty researchers, most of which study health communication, risk and crisis communication, and media studies. Our primary mission is to develop innovative solutions for conducting funded communication research. Current projects include: 1) Creating web-data applications to facilitate systematic coding of digital libraries. 2) Developing systems to capture content from television and social media and then facilitate systematic analysis to identify trends over time. 3) Creating complex survey research applications that incorporate responses with rich data from external data sources. 4) Developing multi-lingual, hand-held survey applications for data collection in remote locations with low-literate populations. 5) Managing tailored and targeted messaging campaigns to improve enrollment and student outcomes. 6) Wide-spread, systematic harvesting of web content to databases for analysis. Additionally, COM-RIT supports instructional technology in 5 smart classrooms, each equipped with lecture-capture systems. We participate in administering departmental assessments and managing instructor data. Team members may also be asked to assist faculty with their workstations or presentation needs. |
