Housing – Maintenance Assistant

The Maintenance Assistant assists the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Leads in maintaining the physical condition of the property according to operating and safety standards, performs repair work, grounds keeping, timely service request completion, monitors vendors visiting campus for contract work and takes diligent notes. The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintaining the business office, residence halls, classrooms, break rooms, and public and common areas of the property in a neat, clean, and attractive condition.

Primary Duties

  • Performs hands-on repairs/maintenance work. Ensures service requests and repairs are made correctly and timely.
  • Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, executes the preventive maintenance program that minimizes emergency repairs and service repairs; inspects grounds, buildings, and other property features to minimize liability concerns.
  • Maintains curb appeal and cleanliness of the property at all times and understands the importance of the retention of residents for occupancy purposes.
  • Maintains positive customer relations and contributes to the positive feedback toward the property.
  • Completes all necessary training as required for the position.
  • Responsibilities could extend to the general cleaning of the units to include the appliances, bathrooms, vacuuming, mopping floors, dusting, cleaning counter tops, and all other cleaning services deemed appropriate.
  • Performs all work necessary to make the units/rooms ready for occupancy.
  • Handles all cleaning equipment/furnishings and tools including but not limited to hand tools, paint equipment, ladders, and cleaning equipment such as carpet cleaning equipment, blowers and hoses.
  • Makes note of any equipment which might need repair prior to occupancy.
  • Provides services in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with the Loss Prevention Program.
  • May be required to accept overtime if need exists.

    Summer Conference runs from May – August.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Education and Experience:
1. A high school diploma or equivalent .

Physical Requirements:
The ability to see, hear, speak, comprehend, and communicate are required. The position may require the ability to operate various types of tools and equipment safely and must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 140 pounds with assistance. Must be able to walk, stand, climb, kneel, reach, crawl, push, pull and twist the majority of the day plus the Maintenance Assistant must possess any abilities and skills required to carry out the responsibilities outlined above, even if not specifically mentioned herein.
