Job Summary

This Program Coordinator role is an integral part of the Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives (CGPDI) team. CGPDI is a university-wide unit in Institutional Diversity that supports recruitment, retention, and belonging efforts for historically marginalized graduate and professional students.

Program Coordinator responsibilities include:

• designing and implementing support and mentorship programs for the academic, personal, and professional development
• engaging students to participate in CGPDI programming by creating relationships with diverse student populations and giving presentations at orientations and other campus events.
• connecting with students in a dynamic and ongoing way through the use of print and electronic newsletters, social media, and direct outreach.
• promoting a holistically supportive, professional, and responsive environment that is conducive to student achievement and the cultivation of healthy relationships.
• contributing to a team with strategic goals to foster matriculation, persistence, and increased graduation rates
• forging alliances with alumni to promote student networking and career development.
• empowering individual student self-discovery and the development of cultural competencies and skills.
• assisting students with clarifying and reaching their personal and professional goals.
• advising graduate and professional student organizations as needed, including specific support of a community building group for women of color.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Demonstrated leadership and sound judgment; strong decision-making and organizational skills, excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication; ability to accurately assess outcomes of changes and modify approaches as needed. MS Windows, Office Suite, Excel, PowerPoint, Database

Preferred Education/Experience

Graduate degree in social sciences, humanities, communications, social work, higher education, student affairs, or related discipline. At least one year of experience related to curricular or co-curricular student support preferred. Experience working with graduate or professional students, working with women of color in a higher education environment, and/or in diversity and inclusion field also a plus. Individuals who have a bachelor’s degree and substantial, relevant work experience will also be considered.
