Recreation Therapist plans, implements, coordinates, and participates in conducting therapeutic recreational activities for patients. Therapists are responsible for providing a therapeutic program of recreational activities for the purpose of improving patients’ physical, social, and emotional well-being. Therapists conduct assessments, make treatment recommendations specific to the discipline and patient needs, and communicate this information to appropriate team members. Therapists function as members of a multidisciplinary treatment team managing delegated aspects of clinical patient issues. Patient responses and progress are communicated via written documentation, in staff meetings, and in family meetings.

This position has been identified as supporting UK HealthCare, which receives funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Therefore, all individuals hired into this position must comply with the federal CMS mandate issued in March of 2022. This mandate requires all new hires to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption as a condition of employment. Start of employment cannot occur until two weeks after receiving the full COVID-19 vaccination series or upon obtaining an approved exemption. Only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization can be accepted.

Bachelor’s Degree inTherapeutic Recreation required. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is required within 6 months ofemployment.
