Job Summary

View every patient, staff and faculty as a customer. Maintain a high level of professionalism in interactions, working with integrity to present ourselves in a manner that promotes trust and confidence. Be flexible, courteous and respectful, anticipating and fulfilling the needs of others. Listen carefully, ask questions and respect the privacy of our patients, faculty and staff. Provide care in support of our goal to be a preferred patient care provider. Greet patients in waiting room and escort patients to intake room. In the Electronic Medical Record, initiate documentation of the patients chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems and all pertinent findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines. Perform preliminary testing to include visual acuity measurements (including EDTRS), glare assessment, intraocular pressure checks, tear film testing, anterior chamber depth, pachymetry, perform refraction, evaluation of extra-ocular motility, confrontational visual field testing, color vision testing, contrast sensitivity testing and pupillary function. Administer topical and oral medications at the direction of the physician. Provide patient with education regarding surgery, medications, tests, procedures, treatments. Provide support for any procedures performed in the clinic, such as intraocular injections, laser treatments and excisions. Follow all safety procedures per protocol guidelines.
Learn/demonstrate basic diagnostics knowledge Learn and demonstrate basic knowledge of automated visual field testing, Goldmann field testing, Goldmann pressure measurements, OCT imaging, and basic ocular photography. Begin learning advanced skills such as pre-op lens calculations (biometry), corneal topography, and manifest refraction. Maintain professional development through continuing education or obtaining certification. Maintain all required University Health immunizations. Acquire working knowledge of any new equipment and procedures as developed for the various subspecialties.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Excellent oral and written communication, customer service focus, professionalism, attention to detail, develop knowledge of electronic health records and basic ophthalmic knowledge, including diagnostic testing, initiative, teamwork.
