Required Education

Bachelors degree in biology, chemistry, or other related scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency.

Required Related Experience

Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials, and substances is required. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required

Physical Requirements

Sitting/standing at workstation for extended periods of time; lifting/carrying light-weight objects.

Job Summary

Department of Biology at the University of Kentucky is seeking a laboratory technician to join a newly established research group studying signaling and transcriptional network in stem cells. As a laboratory technician, you will have the opportunity to be involved in both the research and administrative activities within the lab. The lab technician will be responsible for two major aspects within the lab: (1) Research: A lab technician will perform supervised research in the area of biochemistry and cell biology. Research techniques examples include western blot analysis, mammalian cell culture, and microscopic analysis, among others. A motivated lab technician will have the opportunity to expand their scientific and technical repertoire to advance their career options further. (2) Administration: Lab technician will assist the investigator in the establishment of lab protocols, reagent inventory, and create a barcoded catalog of cell lines, plasmids, and other reagents.

Preferred Education/Experience

Experience in biochemistry and cell biology research is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates will have a baccalaureate degree in a scientific discipline and 3-6 years of experience working in a research laboratory environment.
