Role Summary:GE Healthcare is seeking a Visual Designer to join the Digital Platform UX team. In this role, you will help create useful, usable, and desirable web and mobile applications that help deliver healthcare to patients in moments that matter. You will influence programs to develop and maintain products based on design and user experience principles shared across the organization.

Essential Responsibilities:

+ Work with interaction designers and user interface developers to design the visual aspects of product user interfaces

+ Contribute to a visual and interaction design system used across GE software products

+ Participate in discussions relative to the future direction of design and user experience for Healthcare products

+ Guide effective documentation and communication of design - via wireframes, mockups, prototypes and user stories

+ Participate in user research and evaluation of designs, as well as emerging technology, industry, and market trends.

+ Demonstrate a strong understanding of Agile / Lean UX methodologies

Qualifications/Requirements:Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelors Degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual, product, industrial), User Experience, HCI, or a related field.

+ Minimum 4 years experience

+ Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time

+ Must be willing to work out of an office located in Seattle, WA or Chicago, IL when not travelling

+ Leverages typography, color, layout, composition and materiality to create visual interface designs that clearly and effectively express product capabilities and behaviors, as well as business and product brand values.

+ Develops visual language studies that explore multiple approaches to the overall aesthetic of a product, with regard to brand and experience values and underlying product capability and behavior.

+ Creates visual design specifications and documentation that provide detailed instructions for developers regarding typography, spacing, color and other aspects of a products user interface.

+ Creates multiple variations to a single design component to explore how different treatments meet design requirements and brand/experience goals.

+ Explains and defends design decisions to other members of the project team including developers, product managers, marketers and other designers.

Constructively participates in critiques of own design ideas and those of others.

Designs new components to contribute to design systems, documents intended usage.

Develops visual language studies that explore multiple approaches to the overall aesthetic of a product, with regard to brand and experience values and underlying product capability and behavior.

Skilled in standard design tools (Adobe CC, OmniGraffle, Sketch), hand drawing and visual communication, familiar with time-based and interactive prototyping tools (Hype, Adobe Edge, Keynote).

Understands the implications of digital display and software technologies and for visual interface design.

Demonstrates knowledge of business products, key processes, suppliers, customers and market/competitors. Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc.

Creates artifacts to facilitate shared understanding of business benefit for stakeholders.

Works to create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole.


Continuously measures deliverables of self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different, competing objectives.

Synthesizes information presented and can advise on next steps.

Goes beyond merely presenting functional information, explains the story of the rationale and benefit of their ideas. Uses relevant and appropriate presentation techniques.
