POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager, Audits and Compliance is a member of the Balchem Corporate Quality team. This role is responsible for assessing compliance with Balchem Quality policies and procedures through the corporate internal audit program, as well as oversight of the external audit certification programs. This role also supports the Supply and Customer Quality team by auditing external suppliers and co-manufacturers to Balchem Corporation.

The Senior Manager, Audits and Compliance is responsible for supporting and optimizing site quality operations and practices through effective audits, data analysis and coaching to ensure progress against any findings. They will support continuous improvement toward the goal of best in class quality systems through their interpersonal influence and coaching style.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Working with Supply and Customer Quality to develop and execute a plan to audit external suppliers and co-manufacturers/tollers based upon risk analysis ratings
  • Reporting on internal and external audit findings and trends in an effective and timely manner
  • Working with the business, supply chain and other Quality colleagues to ensure supplier risk is managed in a way that is timely, effective, and ensures the quality and safety of material supply
  • Lead the development and execution of the Balchem corporate quality internal audit program; this includes training of auditors, scheduling or audits, reviewing and approving audit CAPAs and monitoring to ensure effective CAPA completion
  • Oversight of the scheduling and management of the Balchem external audit certification programs including SQF, FAMI QS, Safe-Food Safe-Feed, NSF dietary supplement, USP etc.; this includes acting as the key point person for the Audit Certification Bodies, and shadowing of the auditors to ensure consistent interpretation of requirements across the Balchem network
  • Work with the Operations Quality Directors and site Quality Managers to ensure consistency and timeliness of external audit responses
  • Leading or being a member of special project teams as required
  • Uses effective negotiation skills to resolve conflict and drive alignment
  • Provides coaching and constructive feedback in a timely manner
  • Works effectively with team and cross functional partners

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related discipline with three to five years of experience in quality management
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within the field
  • A master's degree is preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a master's degree
  • Ability to travel 50% or more as needed/required
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of cGXP requirements for Food, Feed, Supplements as well as good laboratory practices, testing methodologies and manufacturing practices as described in the Food Chemical Codex (FCC)
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and organize technical data for communications and analysis, working knowledge of Statistical Process Control and process capability
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and possess good interpersonal skills
  • Must be an effective communicator, possess good listening skills and have effective presentation skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to make sound decisions based on data
  • The ideal candidate possesses certifications in HACCP/HARPC, and SQF; and training in environmental monitoring, auditing and statistical process control
  • Better Process School certification preferred as well as experience with drying, pasteurization, LACF and acidified foods

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves standing, walking, reaching, fingering, stooping, kneeling, repetitive motion and moving, lifting or pushing objects weighing up to 55 pounds
  • Operate various laboratory instruments
