The Amgen Biologics Optimization group is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist with protein analytics expertise to join the Protein Chemistry group at our state-of-the-art research facility in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Biologics Optimization group is responsible for the design, production, assessment, and selection of optimized large molecule therapeutic drug candidates, many of which are complex biologics.

The Protein Chemistry group is primarily responsible for the purification and analytical assessment of novel and complex scaffold molecules, often antibody-based, that will be the next generation of large molecules therapeutics. The Sr. Associate Scientist will be a part of a multidisciplinary team with capabilities in protein engineering, purification and characterization of large molecule drug candidates with a primary focus on analytical characterization.

The successful candidate will apply their scientific expertise to assess the suitability of promising therapeutic candidates to treat serious illnesses and advance Amgen's mission to serve patients.

Key Responsibilities include :
  • Apply protein biochemistry expertise to analyze therapeutic drug candidates.
  • Management of critical high through put analytical data
  • Drive innovation through the development of novel analytical methods that increase capabilities, sensitivity, and throughput.
  • Generate scientific data to support generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions; participate in internal and external scientific outreach.


Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with protein characterization and analysis, particularly biologic molecules
  • Knowledge of high throughput analytical data management is a plus
  • Familiarity with protein analytical techniques (HPLC, microcapillary electrophoresis, MS) and analysis software (Chromeleon, LabChip)
  • Experience with the purification of proteins
  • Ability to multi-task, work flexibly and efficiently in a cross-functional environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret scientific results
