Role Summary:The Senior Safety Engineering role demonstrates your safety experience to analyze the architecture and design of next generation, innovative and industry leading products. The person will bring to bear the aviation systems and safety processes and principals to develop risk mitigation strategies for the nascent Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).

Essential Responsibilities: Perform safety assessments in support of both development projects and flight test activities

Develop empirical and statistical models to characterize and predict system performance

Generate safety requirements

Define safety risk mitigation strategies

Develop and maintain highly efficient safety processes and standards, and promote their consistent application across product development activities and flight operations

Champion a forward-looking safety culture passionate about proactive engagement and issue prevention!

Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, and certification agencies

Form engaged and significant teaming relationships with internal partners and peers to enable team success

Generate safety presentations and documentation needed for the business

Assure accurate documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments

Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Aviation, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Safety Engineering, or related technical discipline from an accredited college or university

Minimum of 7 years of experience in aviation safety

Desired Characteristics: Familiarity with current civil UAS regulations (333/44807 or part 107) and safety practices

Familiarity with major aircraft subsystems, particularly avionics and required safety implications

Extensive experience in safety analyses (ARP 4761, ASTM 3178, JARUS SORA or military equivalent)

Proven oral and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Ability to guide and influence others

Strong technical capability, including applicable engineering tools and systems

Demonstrated success in a multi-functional team environment

Masters Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field

Proven experience in Lean / Six Sigma tools

Participation / experience on related industry committee activities
