Job Summary
Are you interested in working in a collaborative environment driven by innovation? Salem Public Library is seeking an energetic and service-oriented individual for a Senior Library Assistant position. The successful candidate for this position will have excellent lead worker and cash handling skills, a proven track-record of exceptional customer service, and the ability to work with diverse user groups both internally and externally. This position reports to the Youth Services Manager and serves all ages on public service desks and community outreach.

The Senior Library Assistant provides direct library customer services and is responsible for providing lead work assisting with schedule coordination, training and other lead work to support coworkers and volunteers in youth programming, outreach and collection maintenance. This position will coordinate and perform other tactical duties as needed.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana).
  • Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • Associate degree and one year of work experience in library services, customer service, office work or other related area with some lead experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule - including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Spanish Language skills preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills preferred.
  • Two years or more of lead work in a library preferred.
  • Knowledge of adult and youth literature, and familiarity with Library functions preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate and troubleshoot a variety of technology, including hardware and software (computers, tablets, Library databases and applications) preferred.
  • Ability to collect and produce statistical reports preferred.
