The Senior Director of Health Equity will support the development and implementation of the organizations health equity strategy and ensure that health equity is integrated and considered across the organizations policies, programs, and services. The Senior Director of Health Equity will develop and drive strategic priorities around the NKFs health equity goals, ensuring that eliminating racial, ethnic, and other disparities are matrixed into our programs and education.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Health Equity Leadership:

  • Collaborate in a cross-functional team (programs, KLS, scientific operations, field operations etc.) to identify policies, strategies, and/or programs to advance health equity and racial justice through NKF Education and Programs.
  • Orchestrate the development and implementation of the overarching NKF Health Equity Strategy for education and programs that will have a measurable impact in preventing, reducing, or eliminating kidney health disparities and advancing health equity in local communities or populations at risk for and overburdened with kidney diseases.
  • Lead the development of the NKF health equity evaluation strategy and the ongoing assessment and reporting of progress toward health equity goals and objectives.
  • Prepare qualitative and quantitative reports regarding health equity efforts for leadership and for continuous improvement. Partner with other teams advancing health equity initiatives (i.e., Scientific Operations, Patient Advocacy, Marketing, etc.) to align and support their efforts to champion NKFs health equity, community health, and social justice efforts and to ensure that the voice of people living with kidney disease is reflected in our efforts.
  • Identify and engage community partners to identify barriers to health equity in kidney disease and recommend strategies to mitigate those barriers.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Relations team members and local NKF Executive Directors to foster relationships with program funders on a broad range of health equity issues.
  • Serve as an organizational agent of change by providing internal health equity thought leadership, coaching, and mentoring.

Communication:

  • Provide input on the cultural aspects of communications products and materials. Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to develop deliverables that fulfill target audience needs and capabilities.
  • Collaborate across NKF teams to develop and coordinate impactful messaging regarding NKF local and national equity successes to be communicated within and outside of the organization.
  • Work collaboratively across NKF Health Equity workstreams and workgroups to facilitate staff training efforts in health equity and public health including internal peer learning networks and large group trainings.
  • Synthesize learning from focus groups and interviews for reports on best practices to be shared with executive leadership, field staff, potential funders and partners.

Partnership Development:

  • Through continuous research and assessment, develop and execute collaboration opportunities and partnerships leveraging research-based strategies for community engagement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key health equity national, regional partners and local and state racial/social justice organizational relationships to foster stronger partnerships with departments in government, among community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and community partners and stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Advanced degree in health equity, social justice or public health or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible roles leading health equity, social justice, and/or public health efforts
  • In-depth knowledge of public health, social determinants of health, structural racism and other systemic barriers that contribute to health inequities.
  • Proven history of engaging communities of color and individuals and communities that have been socially and economically marginalized
  • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results
  • Experience with using population and program data to inform strategic and programmatic decisions
  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring team members, both internal and external
  • Strong collaboration skills and flexibility with different ways to work is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills on the page and in presentation to inspire the trust and confidence of the internal and external stakeholders with whom this role interacts.
  • Curiosity, passion, collaborative spirit, solutions orientation, and work ethic to deliver.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred
