The team delivers on key initiatives and provides tactical support to ensure R&D scientists and staff receive the goods and services they require, strong analytic support for spend and management of external partners through robust supplier oversight and governance programs. The Senior Associate, R&D Operations supports multiple procurement categories to help exceed productivity and operational goals. The Senior Associate is a compliance champion that executes select expense categories across R&D, including but not limited to, sponsorships, memberships, advisory boards, consultants, guest speakers and other external engagements and expense priorities. The focus is on monitoring and reporting on spend against categories, finding opportunities for improving processes and tools and developing and maintaining infrastructure for the R&D Business Operations team that ensures a strong operational foundation. As a creative problem solver with a get it done approach, responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing scopes of work/work orders and are adept at navigating the complex procurement and payment channels
  • Functioning as the compliance champion, advocating to partners to ensure policies and procedures are in alignment with R&D and corporate requirements for source to pay and other payments such as to physicians, non-profits and professional organizations.
  • Handling financials for assigned expense collections including tracking and reporting.
  • Participating in and contributing to initiatives related to procurement channels for assigned expense categories.
  • Optimizing tools, templates and processes for supplier oversight.
  • Creatively and efficiently crafting and maintaining external and internal facing SharePoint sites and intake request tools.
  • Maintaining role-based curriculum training.

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree


Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related procurement experience


Associate's degree and 6 years of related procurement experience


High school diploma / GED and 8 years of related procurement experience

Preferred Requirements
  • Degree in biology, life sciences, health, medical or clinical sciences along with additional education in finance or business.
  • Familiarity with research and clinical development in biopharmaceutical industry as well as medical and scientific terminology.
  • Finance and budget management experience including cost analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with analytics software (Microsoft Access, SPSS, Spotfire, Tableau, Smartsheet), document management applications, portfolio planning tools, supply chain and financial systems (Planisware, Veeva, SAP, Ariba).
  • Advanced Microsoft Office user (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience working with virtual teams and using collaborative tools and platforms. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong planning and project management skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple high priority projects and minimal supervision.
  • Being able to adapt work and communication styles to meet organization needs.
