**Job Description Summary**

Independently prepares, reviews, analyzes, and communicates information required to successfully complete annual statutory actuarial opinions memorandums, quarterly financial reporting, financial projections, experience reviews and other activities associated with a life and health insurance company. Provides direction, training, and oversight for junior staff members and external partners related primarily to life, health, and annuity products.



**Job Description**



**Roles and Responsibilities**



+ Assists the Appointed Actuary in preparing the annual statutory actuarial opinion, the opinion memorandum, and other actuarial filings. This includes working with managing actuaries, the investment team, external actuarial partners, and others, to update key elements of the documents and analysis.

+ Assists the Appointed Actuary in preparing the companys annual asset adequacy analysis including coordinating and directing the work of junior staff, the investment team, and external partners. It also includes consolidating and analyzing projection results, executing controls, and documenting conclusions.

+ Assists the Appointed Actuary in developing asset adequacy testing assumptions and methodologies including reviewing assumption recommendations made by other experts, identifying appropriate data and information for setting and evaluating assumptions, and determining the level of assumption margins.

+ Works closely with the companys investment team and/or external asset managers to develop and enhance asset projection models and ALM analysis.

+ Supports corporate data requests and development of corporate level analysis including capital projection models.

+ Assists with Appointed Actuary with product specific responsibilities as needed.This includes preparing and analyzing quarterly financial reporting, developing financial projections, executing controls, preparing experience analyses and valuation of various product parameters, and other activities.

+ Assists Finance team in preparing and analyzing information required to successfully complete quarterly financial reporting, financial projections, and other activities associated with a life and health insurance company.

+ Oversees and direct the work of medium to large teams consisting of internal and external parties. Develops expertise within function with ability to assume an Appointed Actuary role in the future. Grows reputation within the organization and industry. Provides professional and/or thought leadership. Influences policy and ensures delivery within own function, linking with other functions of the organization.

+ May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Presents business solutions to leaders in functional area. Communicates complex messages and negotiates mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influences peers to take action and may negotiate with external partners, vendors, or customers.

+ Leads others to find creative solutions to address complex problems that may impact the organization. Has the ability to evaluate quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.



**Required Qualifications**



+ Fellow or Associate of the Society of Actuaries, Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, minimum 5 years of actuarial experience.

+ Familiarity with statutory financial statements including income statement, balance sheet, reserve exhibits, asset schedules, RBC calculations, etc.

+ Experience with asset modeling.

+ LTC and life insurance product experience.

+ Proven ability to learn quickly, and to apply known concepts to new situations.

+ Experience with valuation functions GAAP, statutory, and tax of a life & health insurance organization including experience with preparing actuarial filings.

+ Solutions focused and flexible; able to drive change and lead others to excel in a dynamic environment.

+ Ability to apply a variety of strategic frameworks to analyze problems and to guide and develop solutions.

+ Ability to translate and communicate complex topics in a variety of forums, tailoring communications to effectively fit and influence the targeted audience.

+ Ability to lead the entire range of problem-solving work from problem definition to analysis, recommendation, and the development of implementation plans
