The Securities Fianancing Business Manager / COO support the US Securtities Financing franchise within Global Markets primarily in in coordination with other regions, ensuring effective partnership with Front Office, Control office, Support functions:


The COO role mostly consists in

  1. ensuring that business operations are run smoothly under control,

  2. enabling business heads to develop new client’s interactions & better risk manage their positions,

  3. keeping our costs under control,

  4. ensuring proper conduct and behaviors,

  5. implementing business, regulatory and organizational changes

Ensuring the business is compliant with current regulations and evolving regulatory reform and operates in line with the groups standards on Risk & Control and the Conduct agenda is an imperative of this role.

Working with the Front Office to support business enablement and execution of the growth strategy is also key.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to fill the position of Business Manager / COO, Securities Financing Global Markets.

Business Manager / COO, Securities Financing, Executive summary

The Securities Financing COO is ensuring the efficient business management of US Equities, which consists of Cash Equities and Equity Derivatives. 

The role reports to the Regional Debt Markets, Equities and Securities Financing COO



  • Assist Securities Financing Desk Head to shape their strategy including new Arranged Financing business.
  • Sponsor regional initiatives to develop HSBC business activities and reduce our costs. 
  • Define the risk framework in collaboration with the Control Office, ensuring the activity is under control, monitoring business activity through key indicators
  • Participate to Conduct risk mitigation and Remediation programmes
  • Analyse impact of regulatory change in collaboration with Compliance and Regulatory teams and implement business adaptations, 
  • Represent the business line at GBM forum and interact with local regulator and industry group on case by case basis
  • Support traders and sales in day-to-day activity
  • Ensure seamless coordination with other Securities Financing COO’s in other regions

Some areas of accountability include compliance with current regulation and ensuring the business keeps pace with regulatory reform. The COO team also works with the business to ensure it is well controlled and facilitates the continuous evolvement of the risk and control framework via enhancements to policy, process and infrastructure. 
The COO team also plays a key role in business initiation which can include NPDD’s and GSM’s. 
All accountabilities require close collaboration with the business and support functions in the region and with other regions

The role commands a deep knowledge of Global Markets products with a key focus on Equities products and the pertaining regulations administered in the region. An understanding the Equity operation front to back inclusive of Traded risk, PC, Finance, Operations, Legal, Tax and IT is also key to the successful execution of this role 
The role has a key people aspect for collaboration and in line with the Values of HSBC. A key part is to be a trusted ‘go to’ person for the business.
As Equities, Global Debt Management and Securities Financing have consolidated its COO management under a single structure, there is ample opportunity to identify cross-asset class opportunities for growth and efficiencies and / or to work on cross-asset projects as they become available. Additionally, regional Latin American projects can also be supported in this role as many US clients require access to the region.


Principle responsibilities

  • Accountable to the Regional Debt Markets, Equities and Securities Financing COO
  • Develop and manage the implementation of all Securities Financing Global Markets operational plans and priorities, to manage delivery of the agreed strategy.
  • Ensure Front to back oversight of processes within Securities Financing and ensure that the control framework is robust and consistent. Responsible for ensuring strong relationship between Front office and support functions.  
  • Support the regional and global plans to drive the technology architecture within Securities Financing. Focus on global consistency in the rollout of processes and technology.   
  • Focus on delivering commercial goals and objectives at regional and global level, contributing to strategic plans.
  • Oversee business management activities in order to achieve specified service standards, results and outputs.
  • Drive the conduct agenda playing your part to ensure the business continues to be aligned to HSBC values.
  • Compliance with the current regulatory environment and ensuring the business keeps pace with regulatory reform.


Management of Risk (Operational Risk/FIM requirements)

  • The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation
  • This will be achieved by consistently displaying the behaviours that form part of the HSBC Values and culture and adhering to HSBC risk policies and procedures, including notification and escalation of any concerns and taking required action in relation to points raised by audit and/or external regulators
  • The jobholder is responsible for managing and mitigating operational risks in their day to day operation. In executing these responsibilities, the Group has adopted risk management and internal control structure referred to as the 'Three Lines of Defence'.
  • The jobholder should ensure they understand their position within the Three Lines of Defence, and act accordingly in line with operational risk policy, escalating in a timely manner where they are unsure of actions required

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy/FIM requirements)

  • The jobholder will adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls and will implement the Group compliance policy by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators


  • In executing these responsibilities, the job holder will embed a culture that demonstrate conduct values and behaviours aligned with HSBC standards throughout their day to day activities
