Pacific Biosciences seeks a technical candidate with strong DNA sequencing, industrial molecular biology and instrumentation background to join our applications lab team.  The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting collaborations and execution of pilot projects.  This Scientist position requires mostly hands-on laboratory work, data analysis and technical writing.  Laboratory work is comprised of running experiments and developing and optimizing application workflows for strategic partners.  The scientist will be working in a fast-paced environment, interacting with customers, both internal and external scientists and field application specialists.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and run experiments to support key collaborations.

  • Carry out pilot projects to support sales quarterly and yearly goals.

  • Generate data for new products for marketing collaterals.

  • Develop new workflows and end-to-end solutions for customers.

  • Work closely with Bioinformaticians to analyze data.

  • Sequence samples on the Sequel and Sequel II/IIe Systems.

  • Provide application training to Field Application Scientists and Technical Support.

  • Develop and write documentation (e.g. procedures) and prepare training materials.

  • Generate data for collateral materials (e.g. posters and white papers).

  • Present project results and conclusions to R/D.

  • M.S. or PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field (appropriate experience carrying out molecular biology/biochemistry experiments at the Senior Research Associate level may qualify).

  • Experience in developing LDT assays is highly desired.

  • The ideal candidate will require minimal scientific guidance beyond project goals and can design/execute experiments independently.

  • Good understanding of genomics, particularly human genetics and their intersections with cutting edge molecular technologies.

  • Experience with DNA sequencing and understanding of high throughput sequencing instruments are a must.

  • Technical proficiency in general laboratory practices, biochemistry/molecular biology, including library construction and next generation sequencing platforms.

  • Excellent lab record-keeping and careful attention-to-detail.

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities.

  • Strong familiarity with the paper publication process and associated experimental design requirements.

  • Ability to balance lab projects and technical writing, concurrently.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.  

  • Strong presentation and communication skills.

  • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills.  

  • Enjoy working closely with others as a member of an interdisciplinary team.   

  • Ability to work under pressure.     

  • A can do attitude and be flexible in a fast-paced environment.   

  • Must be an intelligent individual with excellent work ethic, exceptional judgment, and unquestionable integrity.
