POSITION SUMMARY:

The Schedule/Medical Assistant, r is responsible to ensure accurate and complete scheduling of procedures, tests, and diagnostic services provided by the Atlantic City Medical Center. While this position coordinates a wide variety of patient and information flow between physician offices, Pre-Admission Testing, Radiology and the Operating Room, it is responsible for understanding the initial patient registration process as well as the online tools necessary to provide patients with information regarding Precertification, referral need, co-payment, and medical necessity requirements for services to be rendered. While performing the scheduling activates, this position communicates and collaborates with Patient Access team members and other hospital personnel to provide quality customer service.

The position also enters data for all cases/procedures and provides and supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. In addition, Scheduler/Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care and support within the ambulatory setting.

The Scheduler Medical Assistant accurately completes patient interviews, collects appropriate specimens, assists the physician with patient exams, maintains departmental inventory, provides patient education, and ensures quality direct patient care and non-professional services as directed by nursing leadership. This position is also responsible for performing the following as required by position: phlebotomy for diagnostic studies, CLIA waived testing. This position may also complete EKG's and drug and alcohol testing.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certification in Phlebotomy ASCP preferred. Registration and certification as a Medical Assistant required. BLSHCP certified within six months of hire or transfer.

EXPERIENCE: 3 years experience in the medical field as a registrar, receptionist or other related position required. 1-3 years of prior experience as a Medical Assistant preferred. Ability to handle high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions required. Knowledge of medical terminology and computer experience with scheduling software programs and STAR preferred.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the medical office environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing and walking. This position also requires long periods of telephone work. This position frequently lifts 25-50 lbs. and occasionally lifts 50-100 lbs. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool
