POSITION SUMMARY
-
The Professional Registered Nurse in surgery works under the direction of the Coordinator of Surgery for Surgical Services, the RN in Charge and/or the Nursing Supervisor. The surgical RN will function as a circulating nurse and is responsible for patient safety; pre-op, intra-op and post-op and will demonstrate appropriate assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, including those in the following age groups: Infant (1 month to 1 year), Child (1-12 years), Adolescent (13-17 years), Adult (18-64 years) and Geriatric (65 years and older). This care will be delivered in accordance with established standards of performance utilizing the AORN Standards, Recommended Practices and Guidelines.

New graduates will be enrolled in Trinity's Nurse Residency program and expected to graduate from the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Licenses and Certifications Required
-
Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure.

BLS certification required within orientation period.
-
ACLS and PALS certification required within orientation period if monitoring IV conscious sedation and PACU patients.

HCG and Accu-Chek certification required within orientation period.

Educational Requirements

RN program as evidenced by licensure.

Official diploma or transcript from the school/university from where Degree was received.

Experience Requirements
-
Ambulatory Surgery, OR or PACU experience preferred.

Windows computer experience.

Special Skills or Training Requirements
-
Training on reducing the risk of surgical fires.
-
IV skills.
-
IV sedation monitoring as applicable.
-
Equipment training.
