The Research Coordinator will work under the direction of Dr. Hassane Zarour and Dr. Diwakar Davar in the Microbiome Shared Resource (MSR). The Research Coordinator is expected to be both patient-facing and wet-lab orientated.

Job duties will include:

Independently devise methods and procedures for recruitment of suitable patients for enrollment in MSR sample banking protocols through interactions with clinical staff in melanoma and cutaneous malignancy, thoracic, genito-urinary and other disease-specific teams at Hillman Cancer Center (HCC).

Identify and consent suitable patients to MSR sample banking protocols in the in- and/or out- patient settings at HCC and UPMC Shadyside Hospital.

Periodic collection of samples (microbiome, tumor, blood and dietary history) from patients consented to MSR sample banking protocols.

Liaising with other faculty for processing of samples (microbiome, tumor, blood and dietary history) banked under MSR sample banking protocols.

Performing experiments that will include but is not limited to ELISA, Western blot, flow cytometry, DNA/RNA extraction on samples (microbiome, tumor, blood and dietary history). Collect and analyze data.

Creation and maintenance of a database to log samples banked under MSR sample banking protocols to share with other MSR users.

Preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication as co-author or sole author.

The candidate should possess a Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience in a research lab or with clinical trials.

Must be proficient in collection of data and specimens, work independently, and possess analytical skills to determine eligibility of potential cases and control research subjects for accurate recruitment and reporting.

Previous experience with producing written reports for publication is preferred. The applicant must attend weekly team meetings to report progress.

Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills are required. The applicant must work well with others in order to contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

The candidate will be expected to remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or seminars as directed by Dr. Zarour and Dr. Davar.

Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunobiology or Pathology. Experience in a research lab or with clinical trials is preferred.
