Job Summary The Chaplain is a full member of the team who provides for the pastoral needs of participants and staff. Specifically, the chaplain, through professional training and certification, assists individuals to understand more fully life's events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being. From the individual's life experience, the chaplain may offer prayer or reflection. The ideal candidate must be available to travel to other locations (75%). This position is part time 20 hours per week. Credentials, Skills, Abilities and Experience Bachelor's degree is preferred and 1 year of pastoral experience. Bilingual (English/Spanish) The chaplain has completed a curriculum of theological classes and displays skills and competencies in pastoral care. Certification by an appropriate clinical pastoral agency preferred. Must complete at least 1 CPE unit within the first year of employment. Ability to lead and coordinate prayer and facilitate group process Constituent Member of Volunteers of America. Commissioned Minister preferred. Solid standing in the Church through ecclesiastical endorsement Ability and stamina to minister to individuals with varying physical and mental disabilities. Flexibility in work hours, programs, and services. Ability and desire to work with clergy and volunteers of varying faith backgrounds. Experience in working as part of a team; good communication skills. JOB DUTIES The Chaplain, through her or his daily ministry: Carries out the mission, vision, values and ministry of service plan Facilitates the celebration of the Volunteers of America sacraments as appropriate to his or her clerical status Organizes worship services in creative and ecumenical ways in partnerships with local ministers and community based churches Offers religious and spiritual guidance to participants and staff. Regularly visits with individuals while daily giving priority to those in greatest need Serves the families of deceased individuals as well as fellow residents and staff. Provides grief counseling and officiates at funerals as needed. Participates in committees and participant conferences to enhance continuity of care. Establishes positive working relationships with all members of the team as well as with the volunteers including seminary students. Keeps records and generates progress reports as required. Offers and helps coordinate in-service programs regularly to staff to enhance their ministerial credentials. Initiates and maintains communication with area clergy to help grow and support one another's ministries.

Rate of Pay:
