Professor, Dance - South Campus


  • Keep up with developments in the field of study.
  • Demonstrate high standards-academic and professional.
  • Evaluate student work constructively and provide timely feedback.
  • Teach at days, times and locations that meet student needs.
  • Provide access to students through posted conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate, and recommend students learning materials.
  • Develop and use a syllabus and course information materials for each course, laboratory, or clinical setting within state, college, and departmental guidelines.

Professional Development:
  • Maintain high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
  • Use effective teaching methods and materials that reflect thoughtful planning, assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles, and engage students in learning.
  • Evaluate program curricula and teaching methods through a process of self- reflection.
  • Meet or exceed professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and business/industry/higher education requirements, as appropriate to the discipline.

  • Participate actively in college meetings, committees, task forces, and councils.
  • Participate in college-related activities such as registration, community education, student recruitment and retention, and faculty selection.
  • Participate in college activities for students/student organizations.
  • Participate in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Participate in setting departmental goals, developing college budgets to support those goals, and planning for achieving those goals.
  • Maintain departmental affiliation agreements and partnerships with other institutions.

Additional Duties:
  • Advocate for student Professional Development opportunities in regional Dance-specific events and programming.
  • Represent San Jacinto College Dance through the participation in and/or teaching of Master Classes and/or Lectures at the annual American College Dance Association Conference.
  • Choreograph works each Fall and Spring semester to be performed by the San Jacinto College Dance Performing Arts Company.
  • Contribute to the coordination and chaperoning of student participation in the annual American College Dance Association Conference at various institutions within the South-Central Region.
  • Collaborate with other Faculty on the planning and production of live event programming and support other Departmental events as needed.
  • Support the development of standardized curricula to meet the needs of San Jacinto College students for both completion and transfer.
  • Advise and mentor Dance students in the areas of academic success, university transfer, career readiness, and professional development specific to the Dance industry.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities relative to the teaching area
  • Knowledge and experience in the documentation of Dance works through digital photography and video that both captures and enhances the subject.
  • Knowledge and experience in creating promotional materials specific to the field of Dance including poster design, video promotions, and social media engagement.
  • The ability to effectively teach any combination of the following courses:
    • Dance Appreciation
    • World Dance
    • Multiple levels of Modern Dance, Jazz Dance, and Ballet technique courses
    • Dance Improvisation
    • Dance Choreography
    • Multiple levels of Dance Performance

Required Education:
  • Master's degree or above with at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in Dance.

Required Experience:
  • Experience planning and hosting both live and virtual events.

Preferred Experience:
  • College teaching experience
  • Active participation as a Dance professional either as a performer, choreographer, teacher, and/or artist.

Note: Faculty are assigned to teach courses using various delivery methods based on the teaching area and the needs of students and the College, which may require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location.

Salary Grade: MAST
