A postdoctoral position is available with Prof. A.-F. Miller at the University of Kentucky.  Research projects involve production, mutation, immobilization and characterization of flavin-containing enzymes critical to energy metabolism and, electron transfer. The project goals are to articulate principles underlying the extraordinary efficiency, speed and activity of biological enzymes so that the principles can be implemented in novel materials and devices. The specific targets are flavoenzymes that execute electron transfer bifurcation, to learn how they are able to produce higher-energy reductants based on less reactive (but more abundant) fuel. The position is initially for one year at an annual rate of $47,476 (US) plus benefits and can be extended upon mutual agreement.

Additional valuable skills include at least some of QM/MM computation, kinetic enzyme assays, electrochemistry.
