Job Summary | The College of Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky has an open Postdoctoral Research Scholar (PRS) position. The appointment will run for one to two years. The selected candidate will serve under the supervision and training of Dr. Anthony Faiola, who is professor and associate dean of research in the college. The scholar will join an interdisciplinary team that includes researchers from the fields of medicine, health informatics, applied health sciences, engineering, and computer/information science. Research will focus on the study, development, and implementation of mobile health and/or telehealth in clinical and non-clinical environments, and their broader impact on health outcomes. Experience or demonstrated interest in critical care, cancer, health disparities/equity, and health behavior interventions are important. The scholar will perform research, supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students, write grants, and research papers for publication. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance (on campus and remote) will be an essential job requirement, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. It is expected that the scholar will split their time between supporting the research of his/her supervisor and conducting their own independent research, which the supervisor will serve as a collaborator. In either case, the individual will have available the strength of the research team to support their research. The College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the University of Kentucky (UK) is one of six health colleges—as well as a consider number of research from Engineering, Computer Science, and Business who also participate in health-related research. CHS is consistently ranked among the top 25 nationwide in research funding for colleges of allied health. CHS has 120 full-time research and clinical faculty, within five departments. CHS’s projected 2020-21 external funding is $10 million. CHS researchers are awarded grants from a variety of federal and state agencies and foundations. CHS faculty collaborate with research partners from both within and outside our college on projects that are funded by multiple agencies and organizations, including NIH, NSF, and DoD. CHS research includes laboratory-based studies, community-based projects, and scholarship in teaching and learning. CHS focuses on patient care and basic science research the impacts prevention, rehabilitation, outcomes and health monitoring. CHS programs include the fields of physical therapy, athletic training, clinical nutrition, communication sciences and disorders, human health sciences, clinical leadership, physician assistant studies, rehabilitation sciences, human health sciences. UK is a public research university with a Carnegie R1 Research University classification that includes 70 centers and institutes. The $393 million UK spent on R&D in FY 2018 generated more than $725 million in economic activity across the Commonwealth. UK has a direct, and significant, economic impact on Kentucky.
