Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Police Department (UKPD) is seeking Police Officer/Recruits to serve the University community.

If you’re called to use your skills, spend your time, and share your talents serving your community, we’re proud to offer you a unique policing experience to do just that. If selected to join our team, our priority and responsibility is to teach you what you need to serve your community with confidence, compassion, and competence. Our team trains hard, whether it’s improving our de-escalation skills, hands on tactical training, maintaining our physical fitness, or attending leadership courses.

Once you’re trained through the 20-week police academy by the Department of Criminal Justice Training and complete our in-house training, you’ll begin your law enforcement career mastering basic policing responsibilities. These include foot, bike, and mobile patrol, responding to service calls, investigating crimes, preparing and presenting testimony in court, community relations with students, staff, and campus partners, providing security and traffic control for special University events, writing reports, completing training, and engaging in professional development.

As your career progresses, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in specialized units – one of the most enriching parts of an Officer’s career. Examples of these teams include our motorcycle unit, K9 unit, dignitary protection team, athletics liaison team, investigations unit, among many others.

You can’t do what we do anywhere else. At UKPD, we’re big enough to make an impact but small enough to know everyone’s name. So, if you’re looking for a unique place to make a difference, to support a progressive and inclusive community, and to challenge yourself beyond what you thought possible, you belong at UKPD.
