Physical Requirements
This position requires intermittently sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; and performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); and occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; and lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Also involves some exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; and exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, cuts/punctures, and blood-borne or airborne pathogens.
Rotation between staffing OR satellite (50%) and decentralized surgery team coverage (50%): OR staffing is 7on/7off 2nd shift (10:00 am – 10:00 pm Monday through Friday and 6:00 am – 4:00 pm Saturday/Sunday). Decentralized surgery team coverage is Monday through Friday 1st shift (7:30 am – 4:00 pm). Weekends and holidays required per departmental needs.
Job Summary
UK HealthCare is seeking a highly-motivated pharmacist for a clinical pharmacist position with a surgical/critical care and perioperative focus at UK HealthCare in Lexington, Kentucky. The surgery pharmacy team covers trauma, emergency general, vascular, colorectal, oncology, plastics, urology, otolaryngology, and orthopedic surgery service lines. The clinical pharmacist will provide decentralized patient care to patients admitted to the various surgical teams, and provide clinical and operational staffing from the OR pharmacy satellite. The pharmacist makes clinical interventions in terms of patient education, clinical pharmacokinetic and anti-coagulation monitoring, perioperative medication review, drug information, cost-effective care analysis, direct patient care, and interacting with pharmacy residents and students. The ideal candidate will have graduated from an ACPE-accredited school/college of pharmacy, completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency (or equivalent experience) at a minimum and must be eligible for licensure in Kentucky. Board certification in pharmacotherapy or critical care (or board eligibility) is preferred.

The starting pay for this position was recently adjusted. The minimum salary for this position will now be $112,197/year. All pay rates will be based on candidate’s experience.

This position has been identified as supporting UK HealthCare, which receives funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Therefore, all individuals hired into this position must comply with the federal CMS mandate issued in March of 2022. This mandate requires all new hires to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption as a condition of employment. Start of employment cannot occur until two weeks after receiving the full COVID-19 vaccination series or upon obtaining an approved exemption. Only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization can be accepted.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Strong clinical skills; knowledge of inpatient drug distribution and dispensing; ability to prioritize; excellent communication skills; team mentality; desire to teach; and motivation are required to excel in this position.

PharmD and ASHP PGY1 residency and/or PGY2 specialty residency preferred.
