    • Exercise Physiology provides the following services: consultations, individual fitness assessments, individual exercise prescriptions, personal training sessions, small group exercise training and corporate wellness. Participants include fitness related, physical conditioning, clinical exercise, cancer exercise rehabilitation, and other special populations. The department also provides risk factor reduction and education through instruction, supervised exercise and educational programs.
    • The Personal Trainer receives direction and clinical leadership from the Exercise Physiology Manager. Personal Trainers may design a clients exercise plan and proceed with implementation of that plan at their professional discretion. Personal Trainers will be provided with the opportunity to submit input in the design and development of programs for sports performance enhancement programs, corporate wellness, clinical exercise programs and programs for other client populations. Personal Trainers will review client progress with the Exercise Physiology Manager on a regular basis and will proceed in carrying out services supervised by the Exercise Physiology Manager.

    • Licenses and Certifications Required
      • Certification from the National Strength Conditioning Association (NSCA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), American Council on Exercise (ACE), or other closely related accredited organization preferred.
      • Basic Life Support (CPR) required within 30 days of hire.
    • Educational Requirements
      • Bachelors degree or currently enrolled in physical education, exercise science, corporate fitness or a related field of study preferred. Candidates without a fitness related degree may be considered if they have appropriate certification through an accredited program.
    • Experience Requirements
      • Experience in fitness and personal training is preferred.
      • Must have a thorough understanding of the physiological basis of activity and be able to prescribe and instruct exercise according to NSCA, ACE, NASM, ISSA, or ACSM guidelines.
    • Special Skills or Training Requirements
      • Must be competent in and capable of teaching general conditioning, plyometric exercises, traditional strength training techniques and methods, cardiovascular programming, flexibility methods, and applying them in a periodization framework.
