Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to intermittently lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 lbs, transport objects up to 25 lbs, sit/stand for extended periods of time, and engage in repetitive motion.


Primarily day shift however UK Hospitals operate on a 24 hour, 7 days/week basis. Shift will vary and include days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays per departmental needs.

Job Summary

The University of Kentucky HealthCare is currently hiring for a Pediatric Cardiac Service OR Clinical Manager. This position will demonstrate clinical expertise and leadership for the pediatric cardiac surgery team, ensuring standards of care as established by the Joint Pediatric Heart Care Program (JPHCP) are met. Under the general supervision and collaboration with the OR Service Line Manager and in a matrixed reporting relationship with the JPHCP, this position will plan, organize, direct and control all activities involved in the effective, efficient and economical utilization of material resources and personnel of the delegated specialty service, ensuring patient service is continuous and high quality. The Pediatric Cardiac Service OR Clinical Manager relates effectively with Perioperative team members for continuity of care; maintaining satisfactory relations with other departments and nursing units; participating in all phases of education; maintenance of surgeon preference cards; updating and enforcing of policies, documents, procedures and skills of personnel.

Kentucky Children’s Hospital at the University of Kentucky is a 150+ bed facility with a 12-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 4 bed pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, 12 bed progressive care unit, and over 70 bed neonatal intensive care unit. The University of Kentucky has recently partnered with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in a Joint Pediatric Heart Care Program designed to be “one program, two sites” with plans for significant growth and collaboration. In addition to providing exceptional heart care (including open heart surgery), collaborative research and educational opportunities are also actively underway.
An active Kentucky Registered Nurses license is required for this opportunity. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of pediatric cardiac operating room experience with a proven track record of collaborative work and excellent communication skills.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Ability to direct others and negotiate for desired results; ability to work well as part of the leadership team; demonstrates decision-making and problem solving skills; demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills; service specific clinical competency in OR; demonstrates knowledge of computers.

Preferred Education/Experience

Extensive experience with pediatric congenital heart patient population; Five to ten years’ OR nursing experience required; must scrub and circulate pediatric cardiac surgery cases; membership and participation in professional nursing and community organizations preferred; Certified Nurse in the Operation Room (CNOR) certifications preferred; ACLS and PALS preferred.
