Physical Requirements

Standing for long periods, frequent walking, sitting a computer station for extended periods. Ability to lift >50 pounds at times, assisting with turning patients & ambulating them. Must be able to move about in a complex physical environment.

Shift

Must be flexible to work a variety of shifts Days, Evenings, Nights and some weekends and holidays. To ensure the best patient outcomes and a healthy work environment, 50% of hours worked are to be within the hours of 3pm-7am, and must include a minimum of 16 weekend hours in a 6 week schedule. Any modification of this requirement must be made at the discretion of the Nursing Operations Administrator/Service Line Nursing Director.

Job Summary

Patient conditions include a variety of medical circumstances that may benefit from intensive monitoring such as recovery from a heart attack or heart surgery or patients at a high risk for complications. The CVICU unit provides frequent assessments of cardiac conditions for post open heart/thoracotomy and cardio surgical patients. As a part of this unit, the RN serves as an important component of the critical care team. This team is responsible for providing continuous monitoring and quick response to emergent medical problems.
The Assistant Patient Care Manager (A-PCM) supports the patient care manager (PCM) whose human resource span of control exceeds acceptable UKHC standards. He/She will provide supervision, coaching, mentoring and opportunities for growth to nursing staff and assist in the day to day management of the nursing unit(s). The A-PCM assists with scheduling, payroll management, monitoring of staff competencies, evaluation of staff performance, and special projects as assigned by the PCM. He/she will serve as the manager for clerical staff as appropriate on the assigned unit(s). Increased supervision and staff coaching/mentoring is associated with decreased staff turnover and improved patient outcomes.

Strong communication skills, problem solving, thinking/reasoning, analytical detail, ability to multitask effectively with interruptions.
