**Job Description Summary**

The Parts Cost Engineer role sits within the GE Steam Power Operations Service ITR Parts Engineering team and is responsible for leading the engineering teams support of key business initiatives associated with the spare parts business. This important role will support the rollout and implementation of key cost out initiatives within the global Parts Engineering team helping to deliver increased value for GE & our customers.



**Job Description**



The Parts Engineering team within Service ITR Engineering is responsible for scoping and identification of spare parts for steam turbines and generators, across all OEM and targeted oOEM fleets. The team works in partnership with Global Parts Solutions, with dedicated resource assigned to each Global Parts Solutions centre. The team is distributed across several locations, primarily in Europe and the US.



The Parts Cost Engineer is responsible for providing engineering & Should Cost support for Core Parts across the global Parts Engineering team with a view to improving the profitability of the spare parts business.



This includes (but is not limited to):-



+ Supporting LEAN initiatives to drive forward the transformation of Steam Power to a leaner, more efficient & profitable business.

+ Supporting the Value Engineering - Should Cost program. The purpose of this role is to provide Should Costs for the identified parts with the aim to support the Sourcing team in negotiating improved prices with suppliers.

+ Supporting other cost out initiatives to bring increased value to GE



**Essential Functions / Responsibilities** :



+ Provide the link between Parts Engineering and other teams - to build knowledge & understanding of each others processes & requirements.

+ Support the rollout and implementation of key business improvement initiatives within the global Parts Engineering team

+ Categorize identified parts from both manufacturing and costing perspectives.

+ Create & maintain existing Should Cost Models in support of the Core Parts business to derive component costs, feeding these into ERP systems & downstream processes.

+ Provide the relevant technical information from PLM systems to support improvement initiatives.

+ Undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required by the Line Manager.

+ To act according to defined Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety instructions, including general and company own rules.



**Basic Qualifications** :



+ Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Certificate/Diploma in an Engineering or Manufacturing discipline, and 5+ years of relevant professional experience.



**Required characteristics:**



+ 5 years experience in steam turbine or generator engineering, manufacturing, or related function.

+ Working knowledge of parts execution process.

+ Manufacturing experience / understanding of manufacturing processes would be an advantage for this role.

+ Good analytical thinker with process discipline.

+ Decisive problem solver with a customer service mindset and an ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment.

+ Clear oral and written communication skills

+ Strong team player with good interpersonal skills

+ Ability to read / understand drawings and part lists.

+ Knowledge of PLM systems.

+ Knowledge of ERP systems.

+ Appreciation of manufacturing processes from perspective.

+ Focused on quality, cost, on-time delivery, and on-budget performance. Metric focused.
