Job Summary:


The full-time TRIO EOC Outreach Specialist will support the work of the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center program, hosted at Columbia College, by engaging in outreach and recruitment of participants. With strong focus on recruitment for potential participants age 19 years of age and older in the following counties: Audrain, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau, and Randolph.


 


This TRIO EOC is a federally funded grant program that assists adults ages 19 years and above to enroll   in and complete a post- secondary education program.


 


The target population is low income first-generation participants age 19 years of age or older. The position will disseminate college admissions and financial aid information at informational booths, college fairs, and job fairs within established target communities and select high schools.


 


Responsibilities also include providing information about career and technical education employment for success in post-secondary careers. Ideal candidates are prepared for significant travel within the seven counties listed above and transporting of materials to sites.


 


Key duties and responsibilities:



  • Recruit and serve participants in Columbia, MO and surrounding counties.

  • Ability to travel weekly throughout the above listed counties

  • Coordinating and collaborating with target areas, target schools, other programs and community personnel to provide participant services;

  • Designing, implementing and evaluating project services;

  • Working with participants in the target area

  • Oversee applications and verification of CC EOC eligibility; maintain records relative to each participant; maintain and post budget information; coordinate correspondence; workshops and college visits.

  • Provide personalize coaching to CC EOC participants regarding academic and financial concerns that may impact college access

  • Securing and maintaining appropriate documentation for participant eligibility

  • Develop and maintain working and trusting relationships with participants while ensuring program services are provided as outlined in the federal grant

  • Assist EOC team with ongoing projects and initiatives as needed

  • Establish relationships with county human services agencies, educational institutions, and educational programs to coordinate services and promote access to post-secondary careers and education

  • Prepare and give presentations regarding TRIO EOC to partner agencies, community organizations, educational institutions, school districts, high schools, councils, and businesses to facilitate referrals and recruit participants



 


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelors degree in education, student guidance, counseling, psychology, social work or a related field

  • One-year advising experience is preferred with adult students or the military community

  • Demonstrated work experience with low-income, first-generation, minority, disabled, or otherwise disadvantaged individuals/students.

  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

  • Ability to interview potential participants and assess educational, personal, and financial needs

  • TRIO project experience or experience with an equivalent program that serves individuals  who are first- generation, historically underrepresented, low-income, and/or disabled

  • Ability and willingness to communicate with the EOC team across various organizational software
