Job Summary | The Ophthalmic Technician positions are front-line staff in the Department of Ophthalmology, interacting with patients, physicians and other staff. We expect the person in this position to treat all persons with respect and dignity in a courteous manner, anticipating and fulfilling others’ needs while respecting their privacy. We expect our staff to provide and align their care of patients in support of our goal to be a preferred patient care provider. The Ophthalmic Technician will perform patient intake, initiating documentation of the patient’s chief complaints, medical history/review of systems, medication reconciliation, provide support for any in-clinic procedures, and provide patient education for surgeries, medications, testing and treatment. This position will perform all standard preliminary vision testing and demonstrate proficiency in basic/specialized ophthalmic pretesting, demonstrating knowledge of subspecialties and what testing is needed for each patient. It is expected that this position will follow all safety procedures per protocol guidelines. In addition, this position will be required to inventory, clean and stock rooms between patients and during downtimes to ensure all supplies, medication and equipment are readily available. We are a fast-paced and growing ophthalmology enterprise and hire people who seek to grow their career in ophthalmology and who enjoy working in this type of environment. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect our university community including our students, staff, faculty and visitors, the University of Kentucky is requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of October 18, 2021, all new hires prior to their first day of employment must submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19, or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated. |
