Brilliant Detroit Overview
In 2015 Brilliant Detroit was created to provide a radically new approach to kindergarten readiness in neighborhoods. The idea was to create a unique delivery model in our approach to early childhood development by using underutilized housing stock to create early child and family centers in neighborhoods. Brilliant Detroit homes provide holistic services for kids 0-8 predicated on evidence-based programs around health, family support, and education. Brilliant Detroit was born to create kid success neighborhoods. Today, in each location, neighbors come together for fellowship, activities and learning to assure school readiness, and provide needed support for families.
This work will be done in accordance with the core principles of our Detroit-based non-profit team:
This position serves within Brilliant Detroits Operations Department, reporting to the Senior Operations Manager. This position oversees the project management for the renovation and facilities manager of Brilliant Detroits existing and future hubs and other operation projects. The role will be accountable to work in concert with multiple parties on projects and efforts, and be able to work in a fast paced environment.
Activities and Responsibilities:
- Project Management for Facilities
- Plan and designate facility resources, prepare budgets, monitor progress, and keep the Senior Operations Manager and other stakeholders informed in a clear and consistent manner
- Determine and define project scope and objectives for upcoming facility projects
- Coordinate and track the inspections, bids, and applications for new property purchases
- Contact, coordinate, meet and communicate with general contractors and vendors for new renovations
- Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
- Track bids, approvals, paperwork, and budgets in alignment with compliance, budget, and scope for all projects
- Receive, track, and manage completion of maintenance requests in alignment with compliance, budget, and efficiency
- Oversee handiwork vendors, including but not limited coordinating their work, regular check ins, supporting purchases and communication of work to staff
- Oversee utilities for all hubs, keeping compliance and in alignment with renovation schedules
- Create a preventative maintenance structure through regular walk-throughs and other guidelines
- Value equitable vendor selection and practice, especially for Detroit vendors
- Complete and track agency paperwork
- Operational Project Management:
- From start to finish, lead operation projects in collaboration with staff and other vendors
- Plan and designate resources, prepare budgets, monitor progress of each project
- Predict resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner
- Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
- Communicate effectively via phone and email with staff
- Practice warm customer service will all staff, vendors, and participants
- Manage other initiatives and perform other duties as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree or three years of extended experience in facilities, general contracting, business management, or another related field
- Ability to collaborate with team members to achieve ambitious goals;
- Effective oral, written communication and interpersonal skills; proficient in using Google Drive
- A high degree of personal integrity, professionalism and persistence
