We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on Operations Manager to work in collaborative team environment in our Systems Group. The successful incumbent will manage day to day operations of the General Monitors Systems (GMS) group of MSA, with responsibility for the GMS engineering team and day-to-day operations. While reporting to the Director of GMS, this role will manage the technical engineering, programming team, and fabrication personnel, to ensure consistent quality, on time deliveries and to drive customer satisfaction. Sales responsibilities include generating, pursuing, and closing new system sales opportunities and project work for both domestic US and International projects.



  • Responsible for the sale of complex fire and gas safety systems to client groups including end-users, engineering firms and consulting engineers. Work with these client groups to develop technical solutions that meet client needs while satisfying regulatory requirements, providing commercial proposals and negotiating contracts.
  • Prepare detailed quotations and commercial proposals for clients.
  • Manage Engineering and Technical team to deliver complex fire and gas systems to various markets both domestic and international, to ensure quality, contractual compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage the systems purchasing department, directly negotiating with suppliers regarding pricing levels, service and support in furtherance of systems design and fabrication activities.
  • Responsible for the supervision and quality assurance of all systems related projects delivered to customers including conducting factory acceptance testing through final customer acceptance of the system.
  • Be the primary technical and commercial point of contact for end user clients and engineering firms. Maintain and foster positive relationships and growing opportunities with existing customer base.
  • Responsible for day to day operations to drive GMS revenue growth, ensure margins and manage expenses to ensure profitability and achievement of GMS financial and strategic objectives. Ability to be a team leader, with experience managing a P&L, executing growth strategies in a smaller organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated the ability to sell applications involving automatic fire and gas detection and fire extinguishing equipment, communication networks and safety systems to large domestic and international construction projects.
  • Proven ability to lead a team and generate growth, executing growth strategies in a smaller organization.
  • Ability to successfully negotiate large contracts with engineering and construction firms in the $1-3M range, including negotiation of contractual T&Cs, scope of supply definitions, interpretation of detailed customer specifications while protecting MSAs commercial and legal interests.
  • Demonstrated the ability to review, understand and negotiate contractual Terms and Conditions, interpret contractual performance, bonding requirements and insurance requirements in order to protect GM/MSAs legal interest and limit contracting risk exposures.
  • Knowledge of fire and gas code compliance and oil and gas process control and IEC 61508/SIL based implementation of safety systems.
  • Solid organization skills, and proven ability to coach and develop a cross functional team to ensure quality, timeliness and drive customer satisfaction.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills enabling collaboration with associates at all levels of MSA.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Programs and AutoCad.
  • Ability to be a team leader, with experience managing day-to-day business operations, executing growth strategies in a smaller organization.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for customer sites, and other MSA design centers and operations locations, both domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time.


Education/Experience Required:

  • BS in Engineering or other technical related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in fire protection/gas detection engineering and sales.


  • M.S. in Engineering or Masters in Business Administration.
  • Management experience in fire protection/gas detection engineering and sales.
  • Domestic and International sales experience with EPC Projects and End user customers in oil and gas industries and with industrial clients.
  • Project Management experiencing delivering fully integrated fire and gas detection to solutions to oil and gas and industrial client base.
