Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Responsible for all Environmental, Health & Safety for Aesculap, Inc. and its subsidiaries by developing and coordinating all EH&S programs and objectives and providing support required to maintain compliance with Federal and state regulations. This includes performing safety training to meet OSHA regulations and ensuring EH&S regulations through conducting audits and providing technical support. Serves as a catalyst and expert resource to promote and develop an innovative and proactive EH&S culture within the Organization. Will work directly with all levels of the organization to shape the culture of the locations and employees through influence and strong leadership.

Responsibilities: Essential Duties

  • Monitor exposure to hazardous chemicals (industrial hygiene monitoring).
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Local Environmental, Health and Safety regulatory requirements.
  • Lead agency regulatory inspections (OSHA, etc.) and internal EH&S compliance audits to detect existing and potential compliance concerns.
  • Oversee the recordkeeping and reporting requirements (injury and illness data) as well as workers compensation losses.
  • Champion leadership activities designed to create business ownership, responsibility and accountability that will ensure EH&S compliance
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and injuries and recommend corrective action plans to mitigate future losses.
  • Lead safety awareness and performance improvement systems through safety committee participation and coaching safety representatives.
  • Responsible for overseeing the job hazard analysis process and ensuring any hazards are addressed by implementing work and/or engineering controls.
  • Audits and performs safety inspections on all manufacturing and facility equipment.
  • Oversee, determine and order EH&S supplies as needed.
  • Identify company EH&S safety training needs, develop and coordinate EH&S training programs and perform training as required.
  • Promote EH&S awareness through interaction with employees.
  • Assist in creation/revision of company EH&S policies and procedures on a company-wide basis. This also includes research and review of new EH&S regulations.
  • Manage program and disposal of all hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments.
  • Review injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports with Human Resources, Safety Committees and follow up with necessary personnel as required.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 log and database to trend and analyze injury/illness statistics and recommend training or corrective/preventative action as required.
  • Provide input for annual company EH&S goals.
  • Oversee the Safety Committees to ensure success of programs at all facilities.
  • Analyze, collect and oversee the completion of any environmental compliance reporting for all facilities including sustainability activities as directed.
  • Oversee, coordinate and participate in external vendor/contractor environmental audits and ensure corrective actions are abated for all facilities (MO, PA, NJ ) with regard to all hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of all applicable OSHA, etc. regulations
  • Business travel and a valid drivers license is required.
  • Must comply with applicable ISO and FDA regulations as stated in Quality Manual

Qualifications

Expertise: Qualifications-Experience/Training/Education/Etc

Required:

  • BS Degree in a related field (Safety, Environmental, Health Science etc.) with a strong technical background in a manufacturing or distribution setting.
  • 5-7 years Diverse experience in a dynamic EH&S role.
  • 5 years regulatory compliance experience
  • CPR/First Aid certified
  • Working knowledge of RCRA, DOT, HAZWOPER
  • Hazardous and Non Hazardous Waste Management experience/knowledge
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, DEP, EPA and RCRA rules and regulations.
  • OSHA, EPA, DEP, SDS Management and Industrial Health/Hygiene experience required.
  • Outstanding management, communication and influencing skills.
  • Experience working in a FDA regulated environment and/or medical device, pharmaceutical or manufacturing industry (preferred)
  • Experience in writing reports, business correspondence and company procedures.

Language and mathematical skills; reasoning ability:

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect date, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. . The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
