Guggenheim Life and Annuity is seeking a Manager to join the Annuity Administration department. The Manager will join a highly collaborative team responsible for processing new business annuity contracts as well as changes to contracts in-force. In this role the Manager will manage the new business policy services and document services units within Annuity Administration including directing staff to achieve department goals and objectives within established service delivery expectations; representing the needs of the work units for product implementation and system enhancements; training and mentoring representatives to assure cohesive unit; and ensuring department and Company policies and procedures are applied correctly and appropriately documented.

The position is a working managerial role with responsibilities that must be completed directly by the manager in addition to supervising department staff. In addition to 4-6 years' experience processing annuity contracts (from incoming new business to disbursing surrendered contracts, death claims and tax implications) providing exemplary customer service and a working knowledge of workflow systems and document handling/imaging the candidate must have a minimum of 5 years well-rounded background supervising employees in a life insurance-industry related field (life and annuity business preferred).

This role presents opportunities to apply your annuity knowledge and further develop your management skills in a very collaborative customer-focused production environment. The position is located on the north side of Indianapolis Indiana.


  • Manages New Business, Policy Services and Document Services production and staff (both clerical and professional) including coaching and counseling, evaluating performance, conducting performance reviews, maintaining attendance records, ensuring department and company practices and procedures are followed, ensuring adequate coverage and assisting with the hiring process. Motivates staff to continuously provide highest level of service to customers within service delivery standards for accuracy, timeliness, and productivity.
  • Audits work of subordinates to ensure timeliness, thoroughness, completeness and accuracy in the most efficient manner possible. Approves completed financial transactions, including check approval within delegated authority. Ensures service delivery expectations are met.
  • Investigates and implements new or changes to procedures, reorganization of work, and training of new and current staff. Provides guidance for unique processing situations, including exceptions and multi-layered / in-depth annuity practices. Researches processing problems or issues as necessary and recommends system modifications and enhancements. Is involved in software testing and development for new or enhanced Administration applications.
  • Manages and coordinates New Business funding activity, including processes for applying incoming checks/payments within the annuity administration system, processing in-coming financial transactions, premium and suspense reconciliation and balancing, and monthly invoicing.
  • Manages and coordinates Policy Services administration ensuring financial and non-financial transactions for contracts in-force are processed accurately and within productivity standards.
  • Ensures Document Services follows workflow practices for incoming and outgoing mail, faxes and packages, including scanning and indexing incoming new business documents for further processing and distribution of newly processed annuity contracts to clients/customers and agents/IMOs.
  • Develops and implements performance metrics and customer service standards for Annuity Administration including but not limited to New Business, Policy Services, and Document Services.
  • Works with IT Department and software vendors as primary contact for Workflow Management Maintains current workflow designs for existing processes and procedures, and recommends changes to processes to enhance functionality and service.
  • Participates in multi-department ad-hoc committees regarding product and system developments and administration, new product implementation, administrative changes to contracts, changes to regulatory requirements, special promotions and customer notices or announcements.
  • Works with other internal departments, such as Actuarial, Accounting, Marketing, IT and Regulatory Compliance, to research and implement changes and/or solutions for common objectives or issues.
  • Assists with and provides backup for work teams depending upon volume of incoming and outstanding transactions.
  • Keeps abreast of compliance regulations, including anti-fraud, money laundering, and other red flags that may indicate potential fraudulent or inaccurate processing that deviates from standard procedures.


  • Minimum of 5 years supervising employees in a life insurance-industry related field, with life and annuity business preferred.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of related experience with customer service/call center, document handling/imaging, all phases of life insurance/annuity processing.
  • Solid understanding of life insurance/annuity products and processing requirements, state regulations for annuity/insurance products, and a solid understanding of income tax applications for policy/contract owners.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in an insurance or business-related discipline, or commensurate experience
  • Professional designations or demonstrated work toward achieving designations such as LOMA's Fellow/Associate Life Management Institute, (FLMI/ALMI), or Fellow Secure Retirement Institute (FSRI) strongly encouraged
  • Completion of or work toward Associate Insurance Regulatory Compliance (AIRC) and Associate Insurance Agency Administration (AIAA) also encouraged
  • Strong research, analytical, problem solving, organizational, and math skills
  • Proven ability to manage teams of staff in a fast-paced, customer-focused and deadline driven environment
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Exceptional time management skills, including ability to multi-task and work with shifting priorities, meeting tight deadlines and timetables
  • Must be detail oriented and able to make decisions independently
  • Excellent computer skills with thorough understanding of Microsoft applications including advanced Word and Excel skills, Visio, in addition to working knowledge of client relations management (CRM) and workflow management applications.
