Job Summary
Looking for a full-time career position with the City of Salem, Oregon? We have two available in the Public Works Cleaning/CCTV/Grouting section. We are looking for a full-time career employee that works well in a team environment to help clean, inspect, and maintain cities 900 plus mile of sanitary sewer lines and assist in the cleaning and maintenance of the cities pump stations and wet wells.

The first position is an entry level maintenance operator 1 position working daily with a crew leader to clean sanitary sewer lines, washdown and vacuum out wet wells and manholes, and assist in the cleaning of pump stations on request. The second position is an entry level maintenance operator 1 position working daily with a crew leader to perform Closed-Circuit Video Inspection (CCTV) of the city's 900 plus mile of sanitary sewer lines. Both of these positions are in the same work group and the duties will often cross over when necessary.

The primary duties will include performing vehicle trip inspections, placing and removing temporary traffic control, the set up and tear down of a combination hydro cleaner/vacuum truck, setting up the CCTV truck, placing the cameras for inspection, assisting in the operation of the truck, and driving the truck.

The normal work schedule for this position is 0700 to 1530 Monday through Friday with occasional overtime required. What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment drug test (including marijuana).
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
  • Must have a valid Oregon Class A Driver's license with a tanker endorsement or must obtain the Oregon Class A license with a tanker endorsement no longer than six months from the employee start date.
  • Must a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standard.
  • Must be able to stand, traverse, and work on uneven ground for extended periods of time during the work shift.
  • Must be able to work for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions during the work shift.
  • One-year general maintenance, repair, paving, or construction experience in street right-of-way, street maintenance, public works facilities, utility systems, and public improvement.
