The selected candidate will lead a team of engineering professionals performing system engineering in the design, development and delivery of specialized and unique weapon system for a very special customer. A proven background in mission critical systems including mission planning, mission execution and mission analysis is required to lead this team in an integrated and geographically separated engineering team. The ability to lead a team as well as integrate with a widely dispersed engineering team to deliver capabilities required during this 5-year project will be the focus of the system engineering team and the primary responsibility of the Lead System Engineer. Experience in weapon systems development and deployment is highly desired and a solid working knowledge and understanding of automated systems, electromagnetic and RF systems.

Responsibilities:

Leading the Charleston team, performing networked computer systems of systems design, development and fielding a system to satisfy the customer’s needs as part of a larger integrated multi-contractor team for this large project. This will entail providing the vision, guidance and leadership skills necessary to conceive the initial design, develop system requirements, perform requirements analysis, system engineering, and development of a highly integrated and loosely coupled distributed computing environment utilizing modern systems architectures and black box design techniques. The lead engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing and fielding of an integrated component or components of a mission critical system as part of a larger engineering team. A strong engineering knowledge for the design of computing systems in a secure environment is necessary along with a good black box or modular engineering methodologies. This is an important position in a high profile and technically challenging program for which you are responsible for the design, development and delivery a viable solution to the customer. As a leader working in an integrated team environment as well as individually, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with other engineering teams to ensure the proper analysis, development, evolution, implementation, and documentation of the overall system analysis, development and specification by working with other team members to ensure completeness and robustness of the entire system.

Specific duties include:

Develop, staff and lead the Charleston engineering teams for program execution

-
Provide technical and team leadership to systematically design, develop, prototype, test and deploy a major system and capability.

-
Work with the Lead Systems Engineers from other locations and other teams to ensure proper integration of system and capability to achieve desired effects according to the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).

-
Systematically research, analyze, engineer, design and document system architecture and designs to achieve desired capabilities to satisfy the mission.

Develop requirements and specifications for software and then implement them into a fielded capability for the warfighter.

Develop methodologies and metrics to ensure proper system development and schedule

Deliver, on time and on budget, a fully integrated system to achieve the designed functional capabilities.

Provide thought leadership and day-to-day engineering leadership to engineering team

Integrate as a modular component of the larger system-of-systems as well as augment and enhance legacy software systems to achieve desired capabilities.

Qualifications:
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and eigtheen (18) years or more experience; Masters and sixteen (16) years or more experience; PhD or JD and fifteen years or more experience

Education & Experience:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics or a related field

Minimum of 10 years of engineering design and development of computer based systems, preferably for the US military

Minimum of 5 years applied work experience in system engineering, design and development of weapon or mission critical systems.

Preferred:

-
Master of Science or higher degree in engineering, Computer Science or related field with 10 or more years of experience.

-
Significant background in successful development and fielding of military tactical or strategic systems and engineering of Mission Critical or Weapon systems
