A role in Essentials Quality & Safety means working in a critical area that will support Targets efforts to deliver high-quality, safe and compliant product by executing Targets quality assurance requirements throughout the entire product life cycle process. You will participate in the planning and execution of FESQA programs and processes to ensure all owned brand products meet the high quality and safety expectations of the Target guest.

  • Execute day-to-day HQ & Field support to ensure owned brand quality assurance processes and product program objectives are met.
  • Assess, facilitate and resolve quality, safety and regulatory issues quickly and accurately.
  • Provide technical insight, guidance and review to 3rd party test labs for development of product testing protocols needed to fulfill safety & regulatory requirements as well as Target quality, performance and reliability requirements.
  • Coordinate disposition of product test reports and ensure appropriate follow up with internal and external customers including grouping like product for testing, product testing issue resolution, overrides (technical judgment calls) and release for shipment.
  • Provide appropriate technical direction and guidance to Target team members, as well as external vendor partners.
  • Act as a technical liaison between QA Field team, vendor partners and their agents and merchants, product managers, packaging, etc.
  • Support Product Design & Development and Sourcing as the subject matter expert in quality design & control, manufacturability, manufacturing & factory execution and quality assurance.
  • Support Factory Assessments, cGMP Audits, Product Inspections, Product Testing and Packaging regulatory requirements.
  • Centralize processes and act as a primary contact for field operations, merchants and sourcing personnel for departments of responsibility.
  • Perform and oversee failure analysis of products going through safety and recall investigation.
  • Develop category expertise to become the go to person for quality questions concerning assigned categories.
  • Proactive involvement of the QA team in product development/negotiations including Roadmap milestone measurements to assure proper insertion of QA process.
  • Collaborate with the QA Field and Sourcing Teams to ensure factories meet expectations prior to production.
  • Support QA Field Team and Sourcing Team in facility escalation process and in negotiation of exit strategies for red factories.
  • As needed, assist with reviewing products and Target Owned Brand programs.
  • Coordinate training to applicable internal and external partners, as needed.
  • Develop and document internal and external processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Uphold Guest expectations from a Quality and Safety perspective. Monitor and document Guest Comment Management and Quality Initiative Tools.
  • Leads special projects, quality initiatives, large scale and/or complicated product / process resolution. Will collaborate with internal & external partners such as Merchandising, TSS, PDD, Negotiations, Packaging, Field teams, etc.
  • Technical or subject matter expert on large variety of products, processes and QA principles.
  • Acts as a team leader, including setting the teams vision and building a strong team spirit.
  • Owns personal development through continuous learning and proactively seeking new assignments that will help build knowledge and improve skills.

About you:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (chemical, mechanical, material science, etc) and/or technical disciplines (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Quality Management, etc).
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or product development field.
  • Technical knowledge of quality control/assurance processes and procedures.
  • Proficient with product issue resolution and corrective and preventative action execution.
  • Technical understanding of raw material characteristics and manufacturing processes for categories assigned.
  • Strong project management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of FDA Regulated products and regulations (OTC Drugs, Dietary Supplements, Medical Devices, Cosmetics) preferred.
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related preferred.
