**Job Description Summary**

The Civil / Structural Engineer will perform design and analyses of New Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) within a team environment, working with a global team of partner organizations and suppliers to advance plant detailed design and successfully deliver NPP projects.

**Roles and Responsibilities**



+ Civil/Structural engineer with expertise in design, construction and modularization of Nuclear Island structures and structural components. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within design, analyses, construction and modularization of Nuclear Island Structures. The candidate must demonstrate strong, working knowledge of static and dynamic analyses, including reinforced concrete design, structural steel design, and composite structure design. Provides Civil/Structural Engineering support in the delivery of near term and longer-range projects with substantial business impact. Primary responsibilities will be to develop NPP structural design requirements, perform structural engineering analysis and design, static and dynamic analysis/qualification of complex nuclear power plant structures and development of engineering design modules pertaining to Nuclear Island structures.

+ Execute the design/ analysis of Seismic Category I and Seismic Category II structures in accordance with ASME B&PV Section III Division 2, AISC N690 code, and ACI 349 code nuclear structures.

+ Perform linear/non-linear Static and Dynamic analysis of complex NI and Containment structures for reinforced concrete and steel framed structures for seismic, hydrodynamic, thermal, missile, wind and tornado loads using ANSYS or NASTRAN computer codes.

+ Serve as the Responsible Engineer, with proficiency in US-NRC Regulatory Guides, Standard Review Plans, Building Codes and Standards (ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ACI 318, ACI 349, AISC N690, ASME Section III Division 2 (ACI 359), ASCE 7, and IBC).

+ Serve as the Responsible Engineer on system design, design bases, and interfaces to other engineering disciplines.

+ Establish and maintain technical oversight of the applicable regulations (e.g.; US, other national, or global region).

+ Facilitates the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including work such as: soil mechanics, seismic analysis, and foundations for GE supplied equipment. Specifies with a built to function the design and the the requirements for all under ground and above ground civil works, and specifies the civil contractor for the same (leveling, foundations, slabs, etc.). Also to include CW cost estimating, constructability assessments and sequencing, understanding of local civil codes and standards, and the application of structural steel, civil, and geotechnical engineering principals. Conducts analysis and design of industrial structures that support or resist static and dynamic loads. Structural engineering typically includes design and analysis of structures composed of materials such as Structural Steel, Reinforced Concrete, Prestressed Concrete, Wood Framing and Masonry to account for code required loads and load combinations to ensure adequacy of the structure against failure.

+ Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

+ Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

+ Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

+ Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.



**Required Qualifications**



+ Minimum of 5 years of civil/structural experience with Nuclear Power Plant structural analysis, specifically Nuclear Island and Turbine Island structures

+ Bachelor's degree Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university or college.
