Lead Engineer 3D Modeler

Role Summary:The Lead Engineer 3D Modeler will perform conceptual design, including layouts, arrangements and construction drawings, using 3D modeling software, for the development and detailed design of complete systems and building structures.

Essential Responsibilities:Original design activity will require knowledge of design principles, drafting procedures, and manufacturing capabilities. Provide modeling and detailing support for the preparation of documentation for system and component design in an overall power plant project down to the level of details sufficient to procure equipment and commodities. As the Lead Engineer 3D Modeler you will:

+ Work closely with Lead System Engineers (LSEs) and Principal or Senior Engineers to perform plant design, plant layout, commodity interference resolution and system design.

+ Ensure that the necessary design intent and appropriate data is captured and documented.

+ Create and/or modify 3D individual component models, assemblies of models and overall plant layout using 3D modeling software. Perform 3D model interference resolution, space control and design studies as required.

+ Create and/or modify 2D drawings and P&IDs or D&IDs, drawings of individual components, assemblies and plant layout general arrangements (GA) and overlay drawings using 3D modeling software and ensure associatively linked dimensions and data are correct

+ Create and/or modify 2D conceptual drawings and P&IDs or D&IDs, drawings of individual components, assemblies and plant layout general arrangements (GA) and overlay drawings and conceptual isometrics using Intergraph SmartSketch and or AutoDesk AutoCAD software.

+ Using the appropriate software and techniques for the purpose and situation create and/or modify detail drawings of individual components, assemblies and plant layout general arrangement (GA) drawings for; architectural, civil/structural, piping, cable raceway, ducting, HVAC, etc.

+ Individual contributor responsible for concepts, design, modeling, detailing, product structuring and data management plus complete documentation through appropriate configuration management process.

+ Responsible for self-checking their work, requesting consultative assistance, peer review and participating in independent verification activities.

+ Maintains all computers, data, documents, tools, equipment and reference materials in a neat and orderly manner consistent with the engineering profession and company practices.

+ Ensure that correct engineering basis has been used as input for the design activity, its interface with other components or systems and that any design or change impact is communicated across disciplines and design organizations.

+ Learn and follow applicable Process Instructions, Engineering Operating Procedure, and Quality Assurance (QA) requirements as well as relevant best practices and lessons learned.

+ Execute with guidance analysis, design, and integration required to define and support program requirements.

+ Create and/or modify Bill of Materials (BOMs) and/or Material Take Off (MTO) requirements as required.

+ Communicate proactively and effectively on plans, design options, concerns/issues, etc.

+ Participate in system design reviews, cross-discipline design reviews and construct-ability/manufacturing reviews as requested.

+ Demonstrates solid technical knowledge, expertise and skill in plant design, human engineering and related engineering disciplines with potential to learn and grow.


+ Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in an engineering, IT, scientific or other technical position)

+ Minimum 3 years of work experience using 3D modeling software

Desired Characteristics:

+ Familiarity with design, test and analysis tools and systems

+ Strong oral and written communication skills

+ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

+ PC proficiency

+ Experience with power plant layout and mechanical equipment configuration.

+ Experience laying out and detail routing of ASME power piping.

+ Ability to use Word, Excel, and Access.

+ Understanding of large scale construction processes and fundamental principles of design

+ Experience dealing with piping fabrication shops, and parts procurement.

+ Familiarity with large-scale modularization of systems to minimize field installations.

+ Familiarity with architectural drafting standards and practices.

+ Ability to create details from 2D, 3D Autocad and Inventor databases.

+ Functional knowledge of ASME/ANSI 14.5M and other drafting standards

+ Familiarity with SmartPlant Suite of tools
