Lead Designer

Role Summary:Perform conceptual design, including layouts, arrangements and construction drawings for the development and detailed design of complete systems, complex mechanisms or assemblies. Original design activity will require full knowledge of design principles, drafting procedures and manufacturing capabilities. Provide Drafting and Detailing support for the preparation of documentation for various mechanical engineering and tooling projects.



Essential Responsibilities:As the Lead Designer you will:





+ Prepare layouts, details, assemblies, and installation drawings under general supervision where detailed information is supplied through rough sketches and discussions of requirements



+ From basic data, perform calculations necessary to complete all design requirements



+ Interface with other Product Definition personnel to ensure complete integration of documents into the overall design process



+ Conform to department practices and procedures in the maintenance of document records and databases





Qualifications/Requirements:



+ Associates Degree in engineering, designing or closely related field



+ Minimum 5 years of experience drafting in heavy industrial, thermal power, or nuclear industry or similar industries



+ Minimum 5 years of experience using design tools such as Autodesk or equivalent





Desired Characteristics:



+ Strong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write organized engineering documents



+ Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, balance, results oriented analyst and leader. Able to make reasoned, sound, and timely decisions.



+ Excellent knowledge, skill, and experience with PC and desktop engineering productivity software [e.g.; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Visio]



+ Advanced mechanical/mechanism design experience



+ Ability to create details from 2D, and 3D AutoCAD, and Parametric Solid Inventor data bases



+ Functional knowledge of ASME/ANSI 14.5M and other drafting standards



+ Understanding of manufacturing processes, fits, and fundamental principals of design



+ Experience dealing with machine and fabrication shops, and parts procurement and testing.



+ Experience assembly, testing and preparation of associated procedures a plus



+ Able and willing to take ownership and responsibility for actions, and results



+ Self-starter with energy, positive Can-Do attitude and inclusive style



+ Proven track record of delivering on commitments, producing quality schedules in a fast paced and matrixed environment with multiple assignments and priorities



+ Adaptive, able to quickly learn diverse and varying organizational interfaces with professional astuteness and agility.
