Junior Application Support Specialist

The Junior Application Support Specialist is responsible for the analysis, technical support, testing, and administration of assigned software as a service and/or custom developed web and mobile applications. This person serves as a liaison between and among the functional areas that use a given application, as well as the vendors who provide the software as a service and/or development of custom web and mobile applications.

A primary function of this role is to help ensure that assigned software applications meet the needs of the end users, and work with the respective vendor(s) to coordinate application updates and enhancements. This individual actively participates in the development of standard operating procedures for the assigned applications. In conjunction with the Manager, Web and Mobile Technologies, the individual ensures that the software is being used appropriately and in compliance with organization-wide standards and project requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Application Support (50%)
    • Working within established priorities and project management methodologies, coordinate and participate in the requirements gathering analysis, and design for assigned SAAS and/or SOA developed applications.
    • Working within the established SOA project approval guidelines, coordinate and participate in contract review and approval process.
    • Develop and execute quality assurance tests for software changes to assigned applications.
    • Serve as a liaison between end users and software vendors to address application support and enhancement-related concerns for assigned web and mobile applications.
    • Coordinate application support activities (including application updates/service packs) with the respective vendor(s) and end user(s), for various applications including (but not limited to) the following:
  1. SOAs pre-qualification and Professional Development e-Learning systems (Meridian)
  2. Issue tracking system (Mantis)
  3. Listserv management (Icewarp)
  4. Competency Framework Self-Assessment (CFAT)
  5. Mortality and Other Rate Tables (MORT)
  6. SOA Explorer
  7. SOA CPD Tracker
  8. SOA Engage (Higher Logic)
  9. Online Chat (Velaro)
  10. Relative Risk Tool
  11. Exam Grading and Review Platform
  12. SOA Engagement App (Disciple Media)
  13. Learning Companion
  14. Various additional web and mobile applications
  15. Monitor trends in the industry and adapt the web and applications strategy accordingly

  1. System Administration (25%)
    • Perform user and system administration for a variety of third party application service providers including (but not limited to) the following:
  1. Help Desk ticketing system (ManageEngine Service Desk)
  2. File transfer (DropSend and Dropbox)
  3. Online scheduling (Doodle)
  4. Social Media Management System
  5. Web/Phone conferencing (Zoom, GoToMeeting)
  6. SOA Community Platform (Higher Logic)

  1. Product Evaluations (15%)
    • At the direction of the Manager, Web and Mobile Technology, gather requirements and evaluate third party software applications.
    • Recommend third party software solutions, as assigned.

  1. End User Support and Training (10%)
    • As assigned, provide end-user technical support to all stakeholders of the organization including staff, volunteers, members, actuarial candidates, and affiliates.
    • Coordinate and/or provide training to staff on assigned SAAS tools and/or custom developed applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)

  • Requires at least four (1) year of experience in Information Technology
  • One (1) years of systems development life-cycle (SDLC) experience is desirable
  • One (1) years of end user support experience is desirable.
  • One (1) year of software testing experience is desirable.
  • One (1) year of user interface design and/or usability experience is desirable

  • The ability to capture business requirements and translate into system requirements.
  • The ability to execute software quality assurance test plans and document accordingly.
  • The ability to perform complex problem solving.
  • The ability to organize information effectively.

  • The ability to communicate effectively to end users of all experience levels.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The ability to manage small scale projects
  • Familiarity with software-as-a-service (SAAS) providers
  • High attention to detail is required.
  • Working knowledge of security best practices
  • Working knowledge of responsive and mobile design techniques
  • Working knowledge of user interface design and usability
  • Working knowledge of web browsers and behaviors on multiple devices and multiple platforms

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Hybrid office environment
  • Frequent work outside of normal business hours
